Ryder Cup is not world peace, writes Dennis Collet

The 1999 Ryder Cup, tasteless celebration? I'm a Canadian, yes you know, one of those polite but gutless wonders who live across your northern border. After reading Brandon Tucker's worthless gibberish about the Ryder Cup, its format and how bad it is, I want you to think about something:

The Ryder Cup — heck, anything to do with golf (and I am a golfer) is not "world peace." I only wish we Canadians could develop some of the patriotism and enthusiasm shown by Americans when it comes to world peace and golf. We are talking a game here people, a game. With all the terrible things happening in this pathetic world, I would respectfully suggest that the format of the Ryder Cup has no importance whatsoever in the overall scheme of things.

I watch the Ryder Cup matches and enjoy doing so. I don't however think of them as a religious experience. If your column mugshot, Brandon, reflects your age then I have great hope for you as age shapes your set of priorities. Let's all stand back and take a deep breath and send out some feelings of compassion to those on all sides of all questions, especially to the innocent.
