St. George Destination Guide
Utah's Golf
courses are famous for their scenery, conditions, and variety.
In every corner of the state, golf retreats offer spectacular surroundings
at affordable prices.
Per capita, the St
George area offers more golf than any other spot in the sunbelt.
In fact, there are more courses per captia in St George than almost
anywhere else in the country. The City of St George offers four
great golf courses. They are: Sunbrook
Golf Club, St
George Golf Club, Southgate
Golf Club and Red
Hills Golf Course. Sky Mountain Golf Course is owned by the
City of Hurricane and Washington City's pride is their Green Spring
Golf Course. Bloomington Golf Club located in Bloomington is the
only private course in the area.
The Red Rock Golf Trail
The Red Rock Golf Trail located in southern Utah are known for their
challenging designs, affordable green fees, and their spectacular scenic
features. In fact, several of the top rated courses in Utah are found
in the St. George area. The Red Rock Golf Trail is comprised of eight
great courses within a 15-minute radius. St. George is accessible via
United Express from Los Angeles, via Delta Airlines from Salt Lake City
and is just short 90 minute drive from Las Vegas.
Welcome to the ideal place to base an unforgettable vacation, convention
or meeting. Up front you should know that this is not a destination where
a one-night-stay will do. The communities of St. George, Hurricane and
Springdale are beautifully situated among the region's many national parks,
monuments and other scenic treasures. There's enough to do and see within
a reasonable radius of Utah's Dixie to fill an entire vacation.
Plan on staying several days in our hospitable accommodations, eating
at our excellent and diverse restaurants, shopping at an exciting variety
of stores, and visiting some of the most incredible scenic wonders on
the planet. The landscape of Utah's Dixie folds out like an open book,
revealing a geologic history that stretches back millions of years and
exposes the most striking scenery found anywhere.
This is a region of contrasts, from the Mojave Desert at 2,000 feet above
sea level in the Virgin River Gorge, to the 10,000-foot Alpine wilderness
on the ridges of Pine Valley Mountain. The crown jewel of it all is Zion
National Park. Add to that the state parks, the ghost towns, the canyons,
coves, cactus gardens, streams, golf courses, mineral pools, tennis courts,
swimming holes, pioneer buildings, horseback riding, cycling, hiking,
photo opportunities, and you will realize that Utah's Dixie is a place
where you're going to want stay awhile.
Coral
Canyon
Welcome to Coral Canyon, set amidst the beauty and splendor of southwestern
Utah. Designed by golf course architect Keith Foster, Coral Canyon provides
a rare opportunity for you to enjoy luxurious golf at the doorway to some
of the world's most famed natural wonders.
Coral Canyon's 7,029-yard, par-72 layout, designed by Keith Foster, features
80 acres of turf, 55 sand bunkers, two lakes and a labyrinth of dry washes
among the scenic red rock outcroppings of Southern Utah. Coral Canyon
was designed to fit seamlessly into its beautiful natural environment.
The course works its way around some of the area's natural land formations
that give the course a sense of personality. Players have the opportunity
to experience pure golf in the pristine native Utah desert.
Entrada Golf Course
Entrada
(Spanish for "entrance") sits at the foot of jagged Navajo and Kayenta
sandstone cliffs near the mouth of Snow Canyon. Rolling Dunes, ancient
black lava beds and winding arroyos mark this chaotic landscape
in St. George, Utah, just a two-hour drive from Las Vegas.
A sense of time and place have converged at Entrada, where water, wind,
and the forces of time have left an artful impression. The course is built
upon 710 acres of strikingly beautiful southwest Utah desert. Opened in
September 1996, the spectacular Johnny Miller Signature Golf Course is
the featured amenity of the Entrada development.
Entrada was recently named by Golf Digest as one of the top ten new public
upscale golf courses in 1997. Designed to offer golfers of every skill
level an unforgettable world class golf experience, this par 72 golf course
plays a challenging 7,280 yards from the championship tees.
Sunbrook Golf Course
Golf Digest twice rated Sunbrook as the best golf course in Utah. This
rating is a result of a number of elements including scenery, challenge,
quality, and service. With the addition of the Black Rock Nine, Sunbrook
is the only golf club in southwestern Utah to feature 27 championship
holes.
The Woodbridge Nine is also named after its fifth hole. After teeing
off from a bluff overlooking the island-green fourth hole, golfers must
carry a lake featuring a gorgeous country-style wooden bridge. This is
one hole so beautiful you won't mind having to record a bogey on your
scorecard. The Black Rock Nine is so named as a result of three holes
being carved out of treacherous lava rock. The par-four seventh is the
most remarkable. After hitting your first shot from a tee located amidst
a crowd of molten onlookers, your second shot must carry more volcanic
remains plus avoid a small lake strategically placed just to the right
of the green.
Dixie
Red Hills Golf Course
was the first golf course developed by the City of St. George. Red Hills
opened for play in the mid-1960s and, because of its spectacular red rock
setting and playability, has been the favorite of recreational golfers
ever since. Red Hills is a 9-hole par-34 layout that meanders around the
sandstone cliffs of "Utah's Dixie." This golfer-friendly course
also features hundreds of mature Cottonwoods, Mondale Pines, Mesquite,
and other trees that provide ample shade during St. George's warmer months.
Each hole is quite distinct and will leave a lasting memory in the minds
of golfers. Three holes that will stand out most are #1, #3, and #6. The
first hole at Red Hills is a short, up-hill par four. From the tee it
appears quite innocuous. But if you are lucky enough to get past the huge
red rock sentry located in the fairway adjacent to the green, your worries
have just begun.

Southgate Golf Club
Southgate is a favorite among retired players because of its laid back
feel. Due to renovations the front nine is closed, but when playing the
back nine at Southgate, bring your camera. These nine holes traverse along
Tonaquint Mountain and provide awe-inspiring views of the St. George area.
Again, this course is not overly long. The key to successful navigation
is keeping the ball in the fairway. As with most mountain courses, the
greens on Southgate's back nine slope from back to front. Remember to
always keep your approach shot below the hole and you will most likely
end up with a scorecard worth showing off to your friends.
St.
George Golf Club
St. George Golf Club is the hidden gem of southwestern Utah golf. Prior
to its operation by St. George City, this course was called Bloomington
Hills. During those years, it struggled to mature. Over the past 12 years,
St. George Golf Club has become one of the outstanding golf courses in
the state.
The appeal of St. George Golf Club is its beautiful terrain bordering
the Ft. Pierce Wash. In keeping with the natural surroundings, this course
features acres and acres of informal bunkers called "waste areas"
that are actually anything but wasteful. They give the golfer the feeling
of playing the exclusive courses in the Scottsdale area that are characterized
by fairways cut right into the natural desert terrain.
Sun River Golf Club
Sun River Golf club of St. George, Utah is one of southern Utah's finest
championship golf courses. The layout is set next to the Virgin River
and surrounded by the most colorful desert landscape in the country. With
the finest greens and the only bent grass tees in southern Utah you are
bound to have one of your best rounds of golf. Due to renovations the
front nine is closed, but come spend the day with us and have an experience
that we are sure will bring you back again and again."
