Wood v. Wie July 19, 2005, 10:35 am

by Terry
I totally agree with the entire article but as long as those corporate idiots keep handing her exemptions she will continue to play outside her element. Come on Michelle, you're only fifteen. Go hang out at a Dairy Queen or something.

Michelle Wie July 19, 2005, 9:59 am

Why would you display such abuse and harbor such a negative position against a kid?
Just take me off your mailing list-I have no desire to view your site anymore

Hold on... I like how everyone uses the excuse that she's a kid, even though she tries to make the PGA cuts and fails. Its okay to dog Tiger, who's proven himself, but she's a kid, we can't second guess her decisions or should I say the decisions her parents are making for her. Get a life...

Tiger v Wie July 19, 2005, 9:26 am

by Bernard Brandon
I had a tiger and a tigress once when my son and daughter were respectively aged 4 and 7 . Both played Golf and really good but Richie had extraordinary talent whilst Joanne gave up when she was 13 so as to better be "one of the girls"!
Richie ( now 27) still plays off Scratch on his twice a year games - quite amazing cause he is into football and all the other sports but on the Boy Girl thing Sorry Wie No Contest ( and mine were all brought up the very same - nature nurture?)

Woods & Wie July 19, 2005, 9:19 am

I'm sure you've received the reaction you were expecting. Granted Wie hasn't won but that is not due to a lack of talent but perhaps the huge burden placed on a 15 year old being stuck in the spotlight. In the future Mr. Baldwin if you're going to comment on someone like Michelle Wie see if you can do half of what she has done and you're 4 times her age at least in your picture.

Ron Dobson is right, you will eat crow someday. This girl is the future female Tiger Woods.

Wie vs Tiger July 19, 2005, 8:25 am

by Ron Dobson
My goodness, I hope you like crow, for you will have opportunity to dine on it before long. Yes, Tiger deserves all the accolades that come his way, and Wie in no way diminishes that. You are comparing two different situations, however (Tiger is mature wine; Wie, however, is a great, just bottled vintage, that will be phenomenal with some aging). Wie, please remember, is only 15 ! It is her potential that is truly exciting - Michelle will be the first woman - albeit it a few years, say at 19 or 20 - who will compete with the men and give them a good run for the money. Though it is quite unlikely she will ever consistently post in the top 10 on a male dominated reader board, she will be in contention. That is something even the awesome Annika has not done. And the nonsense about passion is just that; what you mistake for passion is just its display, not the depth of its feeling, a display that is more cultural in origin than biological. So the comparison is meaningless, it's like arguing which is better, a nice filet mignon or pheasant under glass - both are wonderful, both worthy of awe, praise and encouragement. Enjoy them both, celebrate their differences - and cut Michelle some slack.

I think this writer has forgotten that Michelle Wie is missing cuts that grown men can't make. If you did research when writing you would know that Wie finished ahead of 75 grown men at the John Deere including former world number 1, David Duval. At 15 years old Tiger was not playing PGA events so their is no guage for this situation.

In typipical fashion here is a "sportswriter" who is writing about something that he know nothing about. Why do we as a reading public put up with this kinda of hogwash. This so called writer should be serving fries at one of the fast food places if they would hire him.

Amen!. I agree with you 1000%
