RE: D's nephew September 6, 2006, 3:36 am

Darling D,
If your nine-year-old nephew understood the (factual) reference to "women and blow" you've got bigger problems than this blog.

The worst analogy in sports writing...this guy should be fired.
I wouldn't read another word from his pen.

Oh, my. How could the statement possibly be the "worst analogy in sports writing" when -- by definition -- it wasn't an analogy at all?

I know that golf fans are generally pretty conservative and may not enjoy reading this analogy. It may not be a great moment in sports, but it's not as if the author made it up. I appreciate the author's analogy, which spices up the completely bland topic of Tiger winning ANOTHER tournament. Nobody's arguing Tiger's greatness. I'm happy I got a good laugh out of a column that I thought was going to be exactly every other one I've read about Tiger this week.

How about his keyboard then? Is there any writer nowadays using a pen?

I agree. Give him crayons and send him back to Journalism class.

Are they using crayons in journalism classes now? Probably not. Writing with accuracy isn't as easy as it looks, is it Mike?

Intimidation works best when you have the skill to back it up. Although I wish that Brandon would have used a more family friendly analogy to highlight examples of previous intimidation tactics in sports, to dismiss the comment as “poor journalism” can be discredited here:
http://www.cbsnews.com/stories/2003/11/26/60minutes/main585718.shtml
I think the majority of Brandon’s readers enjoy his commentary because of his bravery to incorporate current events, risqué sports history, and pop culture satire into today golfing blogosphere. It’s colorful, provoking, and whimsical. I can’t see any evidence of hateful speech anywhere in his blogs, only by a small number of “flame”ers that post hateful comments.

Does NOBODY watch 60 Minutes?
Didn't ANYONE read "LT on the Edge"?
