Rhonda,
I just completed my 4th journey to Myrtle Beach. There are many varieties and types of courses, regarding courses setlled in a natural environment or like many, plugged and over crowded with homes&condo`s all over. I have a few that I must say are carved out beautifully in respect to the natural beauty around them..
Here they are: Pawley`s Plantation( South of myrtle beach 30miles) but a Jack Niklaus beauty. Oyster Bay (Just a few miles North of the S.C. border.) Many of the golfers I run into peg Oyster Bay as a must every year. Myrtle Beach National King`s North.( Very crowded, but that`s because the holes are spectacular as well as challenging. Last one: The Witch ( Named after the owner`s 4th grade teacher! Secluded alone and totally away from the commercial condo`s that strip the natural beauty of so many courses...
Best of Luck!
Frank

Rhonda - I've played probably 25 courses down in the MB area.
Since the courses that encompass the over 100 courses span such a large area, do like we do and focus on a north, central or southern area to play in. Otherwise, you can end up with 45-60 minute commutes.
If you're in the south end, try The Witch if you don't care to see and housing and don't want a large surcharge.
If you don't mind the surcharges, The Heritage, True Blue and Caledonia are must play courses to play at.
If you're in the north, don't miss Glen Dornoch

If I had to play only 2 or 3 courses in the Myrtle beach area, I would play Tidewater, The Dunes and Caledonia. I have not played Pawleys Plantation but I have it on good authority that it is the most scenic course in the area.

Rhonda,
I have brought a group of FF's down every November for the past 6 years. We consider "scenic" to be the beauty of the course, plus the views from the course. Some that come to mind are Rivers Edge, Oyster Bay, Bald Head Island, Pawleys Plantation and Dunes Beach Club. There are several more, but you won't regret any of these.
Take care, stay safe, and enjoy!!!

i would recommend wild wing's avocet and Hummingbird course which is so under rated, and maybe the falcon. man o war was great too but if your looking for a looks go with acovet, hummingbird and willbrook. They are all a little different in sytle challenging and scenic but not too challenging. we stayed at wing wild planation for 4 nights with five rounds for $420 totaly worth it.

| Inexpensive golf? |

Planning to come to Myrtle last week in April, staying at a friend's timeshare.
It appears everything is expensive!!! then. Any recommendations on how to cut costs-- cheaper courses, cheaper times to play, golf cards, etc.?

Greetings Golf Friend:
Make a tee time for the first day of your golf vacation before you leave home, someplace that you have played perhaps, or one you know is not that expensive. As you arrive in the Myrtle Beach area, get the local newspaper and search the sports pages and look for "deals". You can make other tee times as you travel to your first course.
Play Well,
John N.

I will be making my first trip to Myrtle March 26th- April 1 although I did stop and play once at The Wizard
I would like to play at least 4 days and would be willing to get in 36 on at least two of those days. I am traveling by myself and want to play decent courses, but don't have the budget to pay $100 rounds. Could any one suggest 1/2 dozen decent courses that are also a good value. I like a nice course but would rather pay 3 $40 rounds then 1 $120 round. If a deal can be had for singles? Is standby golf active in Myrtle?

Rivers Edge and the others are no more than 20 - 30 minutes from Myrtle. They are DEFINITELY worth the trip. My wife and I fell in love with Rivers Edge and intend to build a house there next year! Most beautiful finishing holes in NC.

Jim: Where are you staying? North/central/south: I note you are playing Diamond Back...there are so many courses i would suggest. You have seen the top ten but there are many others in the very good category. Avocet, heathland, Moorland, thistle, The Witch, Willbrook, Blackmoor, Prestwick, TPC, Long Bay..how many rounds are you playing?.
