I played Wolf Creek after hearing all the praise on this site and others. I tried to like the course even when they wouldn't allow me to play the back tees. (I am a 2 hdcp) I played from the white/blue tees all day due to the placement of the tee box markers. Not in possession of a degree in advanced mathematics, I attempted to calculate numerous equations pertaining to velocity, launch angle and wind speed in order to determine where I should target my golf ball because there is absolutely no help for first timers on this golf course. (The golf ball concession must be a high priority to these folks.) I hit the ball well off the tee and more often than not I found myself dead to rights. My ball disappeared into parts unknown quite often even though I had spent quality time with the yardage book. This was a bit frustrating as you can imagine and didn't help my confidence level one bit. However, once I ran out of "good" balls I was able to thin out the ample supply of "mediocre" balls I had collected over the last few rounds, so I had that going for me, which was nice.
Wolf Creek is visually appealing to those who want to bring a camera instead of golf clubs but for $180 they should take the pics for you. (Actually they do take a snapshot of you before you tee off and then request a payment of $25 for the print when you finish.) Nice.
The real capper on the day was when a ranger approached me on the 16th fairway to suggest that we play faster because we had fallen a bit behind the group ahead. We had managed to keep up with the group ahead all day until that hole even though we were playing from 3 different tee boxes. I suggested to him that he...

wolf creek was largely disappointing to me for several reasons. as a golf experience, it was devoid of any real strategic value but had a consistently repetitive theme: the penal tee shot from a massively elevated tee(the 1 exception: a blind, uphill +200yd par3 from the champ. tees!) if the tee shot was properly executed, the course offered little strategic value. the extremely elevated tees and cart path speed bumps required more strategy and nerve. despite the staff warnings and boasts of difficulty, i shot 87 (12hdcp) with several short putts missed on the slowish and slightly bumpy greens. the reduced green fee, $95, was acceptable on an hourly basis, considering that most rounds are at least 51/2 hrs.
wolf creek is better for phtographers than it is for golfers.
