The article about the golf course in Ohio stirred up memories of a time in my youth were all the neighbor hood kids spent our summer at Emerald Valley Golf Course in Lorain, Ohio. Only 9 holes and owned by the Kucirek family we spent many hours of our youth on the perfect bent green putting surfaces. Thou in the 60's we could not land the ball on the green and make it stop, land the ball short and let it roll on. We did not have a "custom set" of junior clubs and our parents never even played golf. Yet the PGA golf professional encouraged us kids to hang out and play golf. My mother used to bring us dinner in a picnic basket and Joe "the pro" and I would munch out. Today my brother and I are both PGA golf professionals giving back to golf thru junior golf! Long live the family owned "friendly" golf courses and to hell with the corporate all about the money courses.
