Great Track
Had a blast playing this tough, but fair course. Played in the hills, in valleys, 17 and 18 are fantastic finishing holes over water that reward risk and crush you if don’t hit the right shot. Great time overall. Pin placement today was very tough and forced good shots or chips to even have a chance at birdie/par. I saw a beverage cart at least 5 times and even the rangers carry water. Great conversation with starters and staff mage for an enjoyable experience. The only thing that took away from the round was Cart 32 It would benefit from some TLC and maybe a suspension change and brakes checked. It was an I treating ride to be sure. Other than the cart having a mind of it own sometimes. No complaints at all. I will definitely play here again when I come back to town!!
Greens were bad.
Tee to green was not bad. The greens were terrible. They had aerated them about a month ago and they are keeping the grass high which makes putting very difficult. A couple of greens had unplayable areas in them. Lots of courses around Knoxville are a much better value.
Avalon
Avalon has always had issues with greens dying, bunkers, and uneven tees.
Bunkers now have sand as well as rocks so bring your practice wedges. Tee boxes now have grass on them and offer uneven lies. The greens have elevated from dead grass to zoysia which is great for fairways. I have played Avalon since it opened and always hoped the golf course design would match golf course conditions.
Avalon has had a difficult history
Been playing here sporadically since 1990s. Greens issues, tee area issues, and unplayable bunkers have been areas of concern . New ownership has taken these on. Tees still uneven but more grass than in the past. Bunkers were in the past a disgrace now playable if you don't mind dinging your wedges with rocks. The new zoysia greens are something else. They are playing as a normal courses fringe areas.
Staff an A+, practice tee a B pace of play B.
Great Day
Course was fantastic! Staff in Pro Shop and the Avalon Grille were tremendous! The new greens are the best I have played in the area! We had a great day!
Best Layout in town!
Avalon has the best course layout in town. Course has continued to improve, and is my favorite course in town!
Avalon Review
The course was phenomenal. The starter and workers were helpful and respectful to their players. Great location and a well maintained course!
Improving every week!
The team at Avalon continues to make improvements to the course…bunkers are good, greens are good, fairways are good. Now, they’re working on the tee boxes Keep up the good work!
Finally getting some grass on the fairways but they Aerated the greens pretty late and are in kinda crappy conditions
For a country club I expected more this time of year. There were tee boxes that were closed for maintenance, there was a trench dug in the green on the back 9 and quick patched, there golf cart speakers and options were not operational, also on the back 9 there were two holes with giant fans (eyesores/distractions) placed behind the greens.
I plan to play here again!
I booked on GolfNow which required me to pay once I arrived at the course. Upon arrival I could tell it was going to be a good experience. The Pro Shop staff were very friendly. I used the driving range prior to my round. The driving range is rather small, but it gets the job done. I played with a friend and was paired with a lovely couple (Bill & Karen) who are members of the club. They were able to help us navigate the course and were so very nice and cordial. Overall, the course is fantastic. It presents a moderate level of difficulty, but I found it to be a very fun course. Tee Boxes were, for the most part, in great shape. The fairways were great. The Greens played a little fast and they didn't make efforts to prevent crowning around the cups, but my putting game was nowhere good enough to make complaints about that.
Again, Bill & Karen were so wonderful and courteous to us. We even stuck around after our round and had a steak dinner at the restaurant located inside the clubhouse. I hope that I am able to make it back out to the course and play again before I leave town.
Great Time
Had a great time. Staff very accommodating and friendly. Pace was excellent thx
First time here and I’m glad I found it. When you’re going in blind to a course (I have developed a borderline obsession for trying out new courses when I’m traveling and have the time) you’re more likely to enjoy yourself if you have realistic expectations and always remember that the course didn’t call you and force you to play, you called them. The greens here rolled pure, the bunkers, fairways, and tee boxes were well maintained. There wasn’t a ton of blind shots or “Mickey Mouse” holes. Just a solid all around golf club that covers all their bases and a layout that I would take any day. This place would definitely be on the shortlist to be my home course if I lived in the Knoxville area.
The only thing I’d be a little hesitant on is a Saturday/Sunday round with tee times being only 8 minutes apart. This course is challenging for the average golfer so it would be a shame if tee times are that close on the weekend
Great course
Really nice course for the money. Staff was very friendly all around!! We will play again for sure
