Awful course!!
The course has been going down hill for years. This used to be one of the nicer public courses in the state, not so much now.
Let's start off with my golf experience.
The rough is unbelievable. I understand you want to make the course difficult, but this was unreal. Most of the fairways had large clumps of dead grass and the greens were overrun with large black fungus spots. The bunkers were like hitting off concrete and hadn't been raked in years it looked like.
About the only good thing was how fast the golf carts were. I'm glad too because I couldn't finish the course fast enough.
To sum it up this course is not worth the 15 dollars that I paid for it. I feel sorry for the people that pay upwards of 50 dollars to play this course. I will not be back.
Course is great, Greens are horrible
The course was in great shape except for the greens. There were many divots not repaired and many of the greens were burnt. My partners would have to sometimes move our ball to avoid putting over areas of the green with no grass. Not what I expected with a supposedly top notch course like Maywood.
Good and Bad
I will say that the staff was excellent. Now the course and pace were not very favorable. First the course. Not all of it is the golf clubs fault. The rough was playing 6 to 8 inches deep. If you were not in the center of the fairway you were spending 3 to 4 mins looking for your ball. Granted we have had a lot of rain but you still have to mow. The greens were burnt and not cut, but the fairways were in good shape. But again not cut. The layout out is really good. I liked playing the course.
The pace was so slow. They had 2 groups of kids playing a match. They tee off at 1130 and I tee off at 12 and caught them at 3. It took 2 hours and 45 mins to play nine. Can't have that especially during peak hours. The whole experience was ok. But for $52 dollars a round was hoping for more.
Not good
Bad greens and we had to play behind a 9 player group. When I called to report them to the clubhouse they pretty much ignored me. Course was in the worst shape I've ever seen it.
Better Courses in Area
The course has gone down. The fairways were not good.
DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY
Yesterday had to be one of the more disappointing golf experiences that I've ever had!
This course was hyped to be one of the best in KY, and I felt to get to play that kind of course for $50 was a steal....I quickly found out that I shouldn't have paid $10 to play this course. WHAT A DISASTER!!!!!
I'll start with a positive. You drive through a nice neighborhood to get to the course. Pretty houses and well manicured. Also, the clubhouse is nothing extravagant, but nice to say the least.
That's where the positives stop....
The driving range is abysmal...there are some nice knobs of grass for you to hit off of...which are actually nicer pieces of grass than on the course.
The course is in unbelievably bad shape.
Each tee box is a different type of grass...at least 4 of the championship tee boxes are closed because they're so bad. The fairways shouldn't be called such. If you hit the ball down the middle, you have about a 10-15% chance of being on "fairway grass," with the other 85-90% is you being on dirt, weeds, clovers, dandelions...or best option #2, the burnt out brown circles all over the fairways from what looks like some sort of disease.
The rough is on par with the fairway. It's weeds that they let grow out.
I'll be darned if you hit it in a bunker...you may get some nice grass to hit off, or maybe hard pan, or possibly muddy clay...you take your pick. All I can promise you is, it hasn't been raked in months.
The greens were the best part of the course. There were actually spots on them that weren't awful. And then there were gigantic sections of ant farms that you had to putt through. We actually thought it added a nice element to the game/course... It's not everyday you get to putt through little "dirt volcanos" so you might as well take advantage and play a little betting game with that.
I could go on and on with what else was wrong with the course, but I think you get the picture by now....don't waste your money here.
Course in very poor conditions
This has been one of my favorite courses since 1985, however, it saddens me to say that the course is in the worst shape I have ever seen it. Fairways are starting to come in but most of the fairways are infested with weeds that have not been mowed. The roughs are deplorable and have not been mowed. Greens are playable but not in the best of shape. Does not look as if there is enough staff to take care of the course. I will not be coming back for a while.
Disappointed
I have played Maywood dozens of times and always enjoyed it. However, this time i was extremely disappointed. Because of a golfnow error the course was over-booked. That wasn't the issue. That course management made very little effort to correct the situation was the concern. twosomes were in the parking lot trying to catch groups coming off the course to get a cart. We finally teed off about 20 minutes late and frustrated because of the confusion.
Course conditions were not up to par. The Bermuda fairways were still coming in, but, there were far too many pure dirt lies in the fairway. also, the course was covered in weeds both in and out of the fairway. Simply unacceptable for a course of this caliber.
Poor Condition
Never will be back..
A cow pasture would be a nicer fairway
maywood spring
Greens were nice. Fairways still need to be grown back after winter but playable. The first cut on the fairway should be cut at a medium level. There were a few balls lost just off the fairway. I also found many more. Cut back maybe 3 ft.
Good time with great service
Great day of golf. Greens were excellent. Pace of play was wonderful. Suitable range and the staff couldn't have been more polite. Felt like a member. First class overall experience.
Thank you, Bardstown CC

First time, won't be my last...
Played while in to see some family, and saw that it was sunny and warm, so wanted to play something I had never played before... given that it was Febuary and the fairways were brown (as they should be) the course was in really nice shape. Greens were a tad slow, but again it's February... Guy in the clubhouse was friendly, hit some range balls before going out, nice big range that would be great to get some work in on. I surprised myself with how well I played, but that is given that from the 2 tees (tried the tips the first 4 holes and that was a bit much this early in the year) the course is pretty easy, very open layout, but the back 9 has some scenic par 3s and a couple of the par 4s from the back tees would have been a lot to handle... I didn't eat in the clubhouse, but walked by some people eating and it looked very good... il be back in the summer to give it another whirl. I applied for a job here too, so hopefully I get to see it more and more.
Love it!
Awesome course, well kept. Would definitely play again
Fun Course nice people
Course was in good condition considering we had a lot of rain in the prior few days!
Maywood
Course was in good shape. Some of the greens need work. Many cigarettes filters on the greens but many smokers do not consider this littering. How can you love golf but not take care of a course is beyond me.
Staff was very cold and friendliness was poor.
I will not be in a rush to go back.
Fun course and worth the drive from Louisville
This is my third time playing the Maywood course in Mardstown, but my second this year. I can tell you that overall, the course is in better shape than it was at this time last year. There are crab grass patches in the fairway and the rough wasn't very rough (which made it good for my off day of driving). The greens were darn near immaculate, the bunkers were well tended to, but the tee boxes could use some work. Overall, I like this course and I usually play it well, but I would like to see them continue to make improvements to make it like it once was.
Great location in Bardstown Kentucky!!! FUN!!!
I played this course after morning round, and played it for great G N Price, I dropped 2 balls here because when I teed off there was no one playing on a Thursday afternoon. So I hit from Black tees and the gold tees. This course has 5 sets of tees. Back black tees has 7,240 Yards and Gold tees only 6,165 Yards, rating 75.2/ 70.2. This course started out plain and I did not expect this, and after heavy rain this course drained moderately many wet spots early. Has 2 Par 5's which I loved at 600 plus yards but pretty flat holes. And has a 465 yard par 4 hole here. I love distance courses. 7, 8, 9, are a challenge, and elevated holes. Back nine holes 13, 14, 16, 18 present tuff challenges on back side. others are rolling train but easy to manage. Built inside a very Luxury housing development was nice to see the nice houses built here. Again this course lets you rest a couple holes and then gives you some tuff holes on each nine. I found ths course easy to navigate though. I liked the length from the back now that's a rue test if you come and play here. But from the Gold or Whites this course is a breeze and very easy to get around. I shot within my handicap from the blacks easy, and from the gold extremely easy. This course has patches of dry and burnt grass. Has Kentucky mud that's for sure. Greens in Fair conditions here, many Divot spots. again I fixed several. greens had decent roll. I would recommend if you want to challenge this course step back to the blacks, or this course is super easy. Very friendly people here. And when I got done playing 36 holes here the sun came out. Holed out with Black tees at 42-41=83, and gold's 37-38=75. I had fun in my Kentucky golf experience.

Great layout, bad condition
Course is very challenging. Lots of sand and a good variety of hole types.
Fairways are in bad shape. Grass is sparse.
Greens are excellent.
Needs work
I have played this course many times. It is a very good layout. The greens are very good. The fairways are terrible. I am not sure if they lost the fairways during the winter of 2013, and can't get them back, or not, but there are bare spots everywhere. Definitely not something you would expect at a good course at this time of year.
Needs maintenance
Played on Friday Morning so the course was not crowded and can not comment on speed of play. The design of the course is very nice and there are numerous memorable holes. I know it is somewhat early in the year, but the course was in the worst shape I have ever played on. The fairways are all dirt (NO GRASS) and the rough was not cut and covered in dandolions. So if you were off the fairway it was very hard to find the ball and then to hit out of 4 inch rough was close to impossible. brought the condition up to the staff and they said they just had a tournament there the previous weekend? That is hard to believe. If / when the course condition improves, I would definitely give it a chance again.
