Staff Report
TUCSON, AZ (MAY 17, 2001) - TravelGolf.com, already the world's
highest read chain of online golf & travel publications, is
broadening its coverage of hot east coast golf destinations by
launching its Virginia publication, known as OldDominionGolf.com
OldDominionGolf.com will primarily focus on Virginia golf courses and resorts, but will also branch out to cover the Washington D.C. metro region as far north as Pennsylvania. The publication fits well into the Mid-Atlantic golf niche. TravelGolf.com retains Senior Writer Jeffrey A. Rendall to oversee the content of the site, and Rendall says OldDominionGolf.com will compliment the older, more established TravelGolf.com publications to the south: I've always thought that some of the folks who drive through our state to Myrtle Beach and Pinehurst should think about extending their vacations a few daysto play some of the incredible golf courses here in Virginia and in the D.C. metro area. Golf Magazine awarded only 18 gold medals to golf resorts in the entire United States, and two of them are here in the Old Dominion--The Golden Horseshoe and The Homestead. We obviously have a lot to offer golfers at the high end, but we also boast a wide variety of excellent courses and resorts that are very affordable, too. The Mid-Atlantic region contains golf courses & resorts of every type and variety, as well as hosting the work of the brightest names in golf course architecture. It's the complete packagefrom incredible mountain courses like those found at Wintergreen Resort, to links style courses such as the TPC at Virginia Beach or Raspberry Falls. Don't forget peaceful parkland coursesthey're found in abundance, too. Doug Carey will serve as editor of the new publication. OldDominionGolf.com will announce additional staff assignments as they are made. TravelGolf.com chose Virginia's state nickname for the publication to give it a little of the 'flavor' of the state. Historically, Virginia produced many of the United State's greatest minds, and the nickname of the Old Dominion seems to fit the state perfectly. Rendall enjoys history, and will work in historical themes to his coverage when appropriate. Being a history buff, I think Virginia's the place to be if you enjoy touring and learning about the Colonial and Civil War periods. Being a golfer, I was pleasantly surprised to find so much of the rich history of the state is incorporated well into its golf courses and resorts. It adds to the charm of the state. Robert Lewis, General Manager of Tucson-based TravelGolf.com, says it was a natural next step to expand up the coast to the Mid-Atlantic region. It's a well known fact that the D.C. area is a large feeder market for Myrtle Beach, Hilton Head and other traditional golf destinations to the south. We wanted to be able to reach those golfers in their own backyards. OldDominionGolf.com will do just that. With 23 publications, TravelGolf.com runs the world's largest chain of online travel and golf publications. TravelGolf.com publications includes top read MyrtleBeachGolf.com, HiltonheadGolf.com, MichiganGolf.com, ChicagoGolf.com, OntarioGolf.com, LasVegasGolf.com, OrlandoGolf.com, GolfOhio.com, GolfCarolina.com, GolfFlorida.com, GolfCalifornia.com and GolfArizona.com.
