South Riding Golf Club
About
South Riding Golf Club is nestled in the gentle hills of northern Virginia, enjoying a landscape of hardwood forests and grassy meadows. The course offers a variety of challenges but the fairways are wide and player-friendly and the greens can be tough in spots but overall they offer some room for error. The layout requires both strategy and skill, it is definitely not a golf course where you will be able to just "grip and rip it." The course pinpoints your weaknesses but it is still a fair test. South Riding Golf Club's eighth hole is memorable for its difficulty but it's an interesting hole sine there are many ways to play it. At 351 yards, the hole is a short but intimidating dogleg left that will tempt you to go over the trees. The fairway is generous but the saddle-shaped green is flanked with bunkers.

Worst shape I’veever seen the course
Greens in bad condition. Tee boxes even worse. Crab grass on greened and fairways. Range and chipping area was closed .
Needs A lot of Work
Course is not being maintained very well. Greens were in okay condition but fairways and tee boxes were a mess. Also there was no water out on the course.
1/2 a course
I always read reviews on courses prior to booking and always find it very helpful. I make it a point to try to give my take.
Set up a last minute round through GN. 9 holes was $50 or 18 for $60......No brainer..played the 18....
It was truly a tail of two nines....The front nine was decent with some of the Tee boxes in awful shape. The greens were in good shape, very soft so your ball just plugged. The fringe of the greens had alot of mowed weeds which held the ball on fringe putts.....
Now to the back.....Wow.......How a course or maintenance crew can mow the grass and just have the cut grass everywhere is mind-boggling. Total laziness if you ask me. Not even just a little grass, all over the place.......If I was the Superintendant, there is no way I am dealing with that....The back was so wet and sloppy you could barely drive, it really should have been cart path only, which we did on many anyway. The tread marks and the mud holes from carts was terrible. ..............
The staff was very nice especially the snack shop guy......was just visiting the area and probably would never play this course again. Has to be a better trek in the area I would think.
Gnats were AWFUL as well......bring spray of some sort......
Unfortunate
$100+/round+range for this course is not worth it.
review hassle
I received an email every day for two weeks asking to get my review of the course. I dont like leaving bad reviews but they forced me with all the emails. The course was in terrible condition and the staff was rude.
S. Riding is always a fun place. It's not fancy at all but the place is always in good shape. I've played places with better reps but at times they're in lousy shape. S. Riding does not have that problem.
Great course, way too crowded
Course wasn’t all that busy but at times had 3 groups on one hole, no Marshall, this was 11am on cold Tuesday
Starter nicest guy in the world
Won’t play again. Work too much , too hard to get frustrated on golf course.
Has been #1 complaint about course last couple of years and no change
Otherwise liked the course a lot
Cold day but still nice to play
Cold day , not crowded so pace ok , together with late afternoon tee time. Course was and is always in good condition.
Interesting design
Nice course in good shape with multiple tee boxes to let players select difficulty
The greens are terrific
South Riding is in very good condition. Greens are the best I’ve played this year: immaculate, and fast with subtle slopes. Make sure you check your putt from all sides or not only will you miss putts, but the speed will cause your ball to drift away from the hole for a long next putt. Layout is great - large variety of holes. Only negative was cart rule was cart path only. Didn’t see the need. Singles were paired up even though there were plenty of carts lined up. Not a busy day. That made pace slow as a self inflicted problem.
