Horrible shape for a supposed premier course!
This course is sooo difficult and the poor conditions made it more difficult to score. The rakes provided on the carts were seldom used as evidenced by presence of foot prints in every one of the many bunkers. While the fairways were fine, the greens were really bad. There was a mixture of transplanted grass strips and green sand on the greens. Inconsistent speed made putting an adventure. Rolling the ball over footprints in the sand added to the aggravation. This is absolutely the worst condition that I have ever seen at this course.
Tough test; rough greens
Diamondback is a great test for a fair price. I would like to let people know, however, that the greens are not in the best shape right now. Usually relatively slick, and always smooth, they are covered with a blue/green growth mixture that reeeeally slows them down. Clearly this is the "worse before better" time. That said, I'd play it again tomorrow.
Horrible Greens
Don't know what happened, but Diamondback has lost it's greens. We played there about two months ago and the greens were very nice. Yesterday they were just awful. The few greens with good grass growing on them were very slow and did not appear to have been mowed that morning. But most greens were extensively patched and showed more dirt and top-dressing than grass. Very disappointing to pay high-season rates for such poor conditions.
safeguy @ diamondback
Nice course, average conditioning, average amenities. Work being done to the greens was an incovienence but maintenance is necessary and understandable. I will go back.
Not the same Diamondback
Compared to it's condition in the mid 90's it was bad. The bunkers are poorly maintained, and have been overfilled with dirt, not sand. The greens are the worst I have ever played on, and I've been golfing in Central Fla for 15 years. It truely is a shame.
Good bones/poor condition
Scenery was good out in the country but the tees
And greens were in very poor shape. Wouldn't
recommend because of the poor condition
greens
greens not very good looks like they are losing them and they are doing everything they can to save them but would play it again because its a beautiful course and very quiet
greens in poor condition
Notice should have been given that the greens were in poor condition and while they were playable you often had to move the ball to avoid unplayable spots. Also the greens or portions of them appeared to have not been cut and resulted in various speeds on the greens but generally they were very slow. My past experiences at Diamondback have been very enjoyable but I felt that this day the $$ value was very poor and the player should have been warned about conditions or the price reduced . I played today at West Orange and all conditions were excellent and the cost was 30% less. The two courses did not compare favorably.
greens
greens were being re-grown. course should have been closed.
Not a good day !
Currently on holiday from Edinburgh staying in a villa in Davenport. Played as a fourball with a friendly couple from Rhode Island. We may well have walked off if they had not been there. Greens were really not good. If you do not know the course the first 4 holes are difficult. The back 9 does redeem itself a bit. There was a fourball behind us that were constantly shouting the whole way round . . clubhouse was also really not great either. Not a course I would recommend.
Greens are slooow
Longer drive than anticipated add 20 minutes to Google's estimates. Greens are slow. Good course to knock the rust off the clubs from a long winter's nap.
Not improving
we played a couple of weeks ago and put the conditions down to the poor weather. The recent good weather hasn't worked any magic. the course is tight in landing areas, with narrow fairways and hazards, so when you do avoid these and play to the green, you have a right to a decent putting surface. There is a tremendous amount of sand on the greens, and some of them are like patch work where new turves have been put in. If you are just off the fairway, you are in lost ball territory, or are playing from a sandy lie.i couldn't recommend the course unless it improves dramatically in condition. In top condition, this would be a very good course. As it is, it's a poor course.
Diamondback Not Like it Used to Be
Its really a shame that this course has fallen on hard times. Or so it seems anyway. While still playable the course condition ranges from fair to average with so much neglect that it really makes one wonder how long it can last.
Bad Greens
I agree with another review - do not play until the greens mature & that is going to take some time.
greens
the greens where just horrible. If you like putting on green sandy greens this is the place for you.
last round here !!!!
We had played this course last week, wasn't too bad only 2 or 3 greens where in repair mode. But this week every single one of the 18 greens where in very bad shape. The pace of game was way too long had to wait for every single shot .Would have been nice of them mention that they were renovating !!!!!!!!!
Great potential
There was no starter which resulted in golfers going out in pairs leading to long delays. Fairways were very bare and it was impossible to make consistent shots which along with the difficulty of the course made it almost impossible to play and enjoy. The bath rooms were in poor condition and smelly. There was little or no grass around the greens so chipping was not possible. Overall it was a very bad experience.
don't play until greens mature
greens must mature - almost unplayable. many blind shots and blind hazards slow pace of play and confound the unfamiliar.
Testing course
Really good test of golf greens have had problems and still look a bit rough but rolled well .
Bargain for the money
Decent
Fairways good, greens had a lot of packed sand, discoloured but ran well. Lots of sand traps & often needed to locate drive for second shot positioning.
