Just in time for this week's PGA Tour stop in Colorado, The International, senior writer David R. Holland offers a review of the host course, Castle Pines Golf Club, along with a complete tournament preview. Located just south of Cherry Hills, Castle Pines is a stern test of golf designed by Jack Nicklaus and opened in 1981. As Holland notes, "Situated at a lofty 6,400 feet in elevation among Ponderosa pines, boulders and scrub oak, this 7,503-yard up-and-down hilly golf adventure is one of the toughest walks the tour players face." Holland's comprehensive story includes the television schedule for this week and a special look at Castle Pines' 10th hole, which was recently selected as one of America's 18 greatest holes. If you enjoy the story, be sure to check out
Holland's recent feature, On The Road In the Canadian Rockies, as well as his overview of the diversified Lake Tahoe-Reno golf scene.
LasVegasGolf.com: Coming Up Aces in Laughlin
Staff writer Guy Torrey continues his ongoing series on "Secret Golf Meccas" this week with a look at Laughlin, Nevada. Located 100 miles south of Las Vegas, the city features an oasis of inexpensive meals, thousands of cheap, available rooms, and Nevada's inimitable brand of excitement. Torrey covers everything from transportation to great golf in this special look at Laughlin, which sits perched along the banks of the Colorado River. "Golfers who find
themselves exasperated (or impoverished) by the high-roller friendly atmosphere of Glitter Gulch's top tracks, owe it to themselves to discover Laughlin," writes Torrey. If you're looking for more this week from Torrey, visit GolfCalifornia.com for his review of the ever-changing Mare Island Golf Club in Vallejo.
GolfIllinois.com: The Answer Man Cometh
You've got questions about the Illinois golf scene, and we've got answers. Thanks to GolfIllinois.com staff writer David Stone, we've compiled a list of the top questions asked at the site over the past few months. Whether you want to know how many courses there are in the state (637) or you're just looking for the dates of the Chicago Golf Show, this is the place to look. And while you're at the site, be sure to catch staff writer Brendan O'Brien's two course reviews this week. He begins in Plainfield with a look at Carillon Golf Club, a popular layout that's in top condition. O'Brien also reviews the imaginative Cinder Ridge Golf Course, which features one of the most talked about holes in Chicagoland.
TravelGolf.com: Two New Product Reviews
In our product review spotlight this week, senior writer David R. Holland looks at the distinctive Adidas golf shoes and its integrated "Z" shaped Traxion™ lugs, specifically engineered to deliver superior traction and stability for the golf swing. "What I like about these $140 all-leather upper golf shoes are the comfort right out of the box," writes Holland, who says if you want to look good, these are the shoes for you. Also in our product spotlight this week, staff writer Guy Torrey checks out Sundog Eyewear, which is hoping to provide technologically advanced, golf-specific eyewear at a reasonable price. Torrey says they've achieved their goal: "Not only are these chic shades enabling golfers to look fashionable, they perform a valuable function [of protecting their eyes]."
OntarioGolf.com: A Little Piece Of Heaven
Manitoba has a wonderful mix of low, fertile farmland, rolling parkland, and an abundance of lakes, but staff writer Andrew Penner says the province is often overlooked when discussion centers on Canada's National Parks. For this week's featured OntarioGolf.com review, Penner travels to Manitoba's Riding Mountain National Park to play the Clear Lake Golf Course, which is widely regarded as one of Manitoba's finest layouts. "he Clear Lake Golf Course leaves one with a euphoric feeling that few places can," Penner writes. "It's an absolute joy to play, a breath of fresh air, a course with character. It's a quaint little track with its own pulse; it beats loud and strong." Also on the site this week, check out staff writer Bruce Kurta's review of the Kleinburg Golf Club, a traditional course near Toronto that's both challenging and extremely well maintained.

From the Rough: GolfFlorida.com Spotlight
In case you missed last week's report, be sure to catch Derek Duncan's review of the Diamond Players Club Clermont layout. Duncan says all that stands between the course and a top ranking is a better marketing effort. "DPC Clermont is one of the most exhilarating golf courses to open in Central Florida in years," he writes. "There is nothing else like it in the area, probably in the state. There are shots here that simply can't be duplicated anywhere else in Florida." Opened in 1999, the course is the brainchild of designer Terry LaGree, who uses elevation and the natural terrain to create a course that's full of surprising challenges.
As always, if you disagree with our reviewers on a certain course
or just want to sound off about the latest from the PGA Tour, be
sure to visit the GolfBoards.com
website, a series of message boards where visitors can write about
everything from the Myrtle Beach golf scene to new equipment. There's
also a free classifieds section where golfers can advertise that
old set of clubs they've been meaning to sell for years. And if
you haven't checked it out already, be sure to visit the new TravelGolf.com
Pro Shop, a joint venture with The Golf Warehouse. With all
of this at TravelGolf.com, there's no need to go anywhere else on
the Web.
Until next week….happy golfing!
