Chris Baldwin, Senior Staff Writer
As Senior Staff Writer, Chris Baldwin brings a critical, objective eye to the golf meccas of Las Vegas, Arizona, California and Mexico. He carries more than 11 years of journalism experience, seven in the ultra-competitive New York metropolitan area market.
Baldwin won six national Associated Press Sports Editors awards in six years at the Asbury Park Press, including two for column writing. Later at Metro (New York), Baldwin started a sports media column from scratch. He's covered four World Series, two NBA Finals, two Stanley Cup Finals, two U.S. Opens and plenty of other golf. Baldwin's happy to count himself among the many who've been scolded by Tiger Woods' caddy/henchman Steve Williams and proud to count himself among the few who witnessed the courageous, giving strength of Heather Farr's LPGA friends after her breast cancer death.
A native of Utica, Mich., Baldwin credits renowned high school journalism advisor and Michigan Journalism Hall of Famer Gloria Olman with teaching him early to always write the truth, fearlessly. It's a lesson he's held onto, as he covered Michigan State football and men's basketball for the Lansing State Journal while still in college, as he worked his way into the New York market, as he set out to examine West Coast golf.
Now if the dry, desert air could only somehow straighten out his swing. It's bad. Truthfully.
