He is a member of the Golf Writers Association of America, California Golf Writers, and the Sierra Nevada Golf Course Superintendents Association.

Doug's reviews capture the feel of the course and try to give the golfer a glimpse into the perspective from the designer of each course. He has had the opportunity to see the works of the games best architect's around the country but enjoys the works of the early architects the most. Most importantly he tries to hold on to the aspect before golf became a huge business it was a fascinating game that has captured people's imagination for centuries.

"To play courses that were built without the advantage of modern equipment is to see architectural creativity at its best. It is not surprising that you see many modern designers trying to capture that historical feel. The best thing about golf courses is that every one is different, and each one has some endearing quality if you look hard enough," Saunders says.
