Jeffrey Weidel - Contributor

Jeffrey Weidel has been working in the Sacramento area as a sportswriter since 1981. He is currently the Assistant Sports Editor of The Press-Tribune, a three-day a week paper in Roseville. An avid golfer with a 10.6 index, Weidel has been the paper's golf writer for six years.

In a Press-Tribune story in 1996, his touching portrait of Roseville golf pro Ed Vasconcellos, a kidney donor to his son, won Weidel a first-place finish in the features category, awarded by the prestigious California Newspaper Publishers Association. He won again in 2000 for a series of stories on a Little League All-Star team that made a strong run at the Little League World Series five years ago. Weidel has also teamed with Sports Editor Jeff Caraska to produce three first-place finishes and one runner-up spot the last four years in the CNPA's selection of best sports section in its small newspaper category.

Weidel resides in the Sacramento area with his wife (D.J.), 11-year-old daughter (Courtlin) and the family's newest additions, Brianne, a very sociable cockatiel, plus a Maltese puppy named Sierra.
