David Weiss - Contributor

David Weiss, a Detroit native, divides his time equally between the worlds of golf and music. In the former, he was west coast editor and frequent contributor to Golf & Travel magazine, and in the latter he is known as David Was, half of the writing/producing team that created the band Was (Not Was).

Weiss, a University of Michigan grad, began his career as a journalist with the Detroit Sun as an investigative reporter and arts reviewer. Moving to Los Angeles in 1980, he became the jazz writer for Daily Variety and the L.A. Herald Examiner. His byline has also appeared in Entertainment Weekly, Rolling Stone and the Detroit News, as well as Travel & Leisure Golf and Golf Tips.

In the music sphere, David Was has produced music and co-written songs with Bob Dylan, Iggy Pop, Rickie Lee Jones, Roy Orbison and many others. He produced the soundtrack to the "X-Files" feature film and has scored the music for CBS' "The Education of Max Bickford" and ABC's "That Was Then."
