Brackenridge Park Golf Course
About
Brackenridge Park Golf Course, which is the oldest public golf course in Texas, was the first ever host to the Texas Open Golf Tournament in 1922. This historic golf course has the honor of being the first inductee into the Texas Golf Hall of Fame. Brackenridge Park may not be as challenging to today’s golfers, but it is still an entertaining round. The layout has a tight front nine with plenty of trees, demanding accurate tee shots. The back nine is more open, subjecting it to strong winds. Water comes into play on a few holes and there are also numerous doglegs and well-placed bunkers to watch out for. Elevated greens and tight fairways lined with trees add to the challenge at Brackenridge Park Golf Course.

Brackenridge Park Golf Course San Antonio, Texas Photo submitted by MarkP3MP on 03/13/2013
bunkers
Sand traps were in excellent condition. all the greens were in excellent condition. The best I have played this winter.
The price is way to much for city course
Too much money for the pace of play. Nice improvements to new layout.
Horrible
Worst golf experience yet. Group of 25 walking kids in front. With me and my buddy in a cart following. Not once did the kids show any golf ettiquette and offer us to pass. Greens very tore up with unrepaired ball marks. Paid for 18. Took over 3 hours to play 9 holes. Didnt get to finish.
Only 10 minutes from Riverwalk
Good shape for city/public course. Love the historic club house.
Brackenridge Golf Course
Excellent course and outstanding staff! The course itself was in excellent condition even after several days of heavy rain. Pace-of-play was a little slow, but was still able to play 18 holes in a little over four hours. One of my favorite courses in San Antonio!
Nice upgrade but not for the price
Finally was able to play Brack after the remodel. I couldn't really see paying 80+ dollars when it used to cost 25 but got an nice deal through golfnow. We played after the rains but the course drained pretty good. The fairways and greens were nice and the rough was an upgrade from how it used to look. Bunkers were added that made it more challenging. Playing the par 3 from the back made it a challenge. I liked the reroute of the last 4 holes even though number 16 seemed unfair with the giant pecan tree blocking your landing area. It was a nice experience that i could mark of my bucket list.
Beautiful course
Playing Brackenridge was fun yet challenging to all golf levels. This is one of my fav courses in SA, course is always in immaculate shape & greens roll true. Only thing negative I can say was there's no food & Bev cart girls around which was disappointing. The other thing was it was hot and some water jugs around the course were empty, They need to refill & check then every 6hrs and Ball washers didn't have any water in them. Other than that Brack has the texas golf museum which showcases all the great Texas Legends to Hogan,Nelson, Demarett, kite, Crenshaw etc... Which is a real treat. Not to mention that's where Hogan first turned pro.
Won't be back
The course was in great condition for August in San Antonio and the staff was friendly. What killed it for me was the 5+ hours it took to play a round. We waited on every single tee box, and on a few boxes watched not only the fivesome that was walking in front of us tee off, but also the group in front of them as well.
It's one of those "everyone should try it once" type of places due to the history, square greens, etc, I just wish they all hadn't tried it on the same day I did.
We got a great deal with the "hot deal" tee times. I would have been severely disappointed had we paid the normal $70 rate.
Brackenridge
first time I've played this course since its remodeling years ago. I hadn't played there in years because the price was raised so much after the remodel. The course is in great condition, but it's a short course--might even be categorized an an executive course. It has 5 par 3's (one less than 100 yds) and it seems the par fours averaged 320 or so. At the regular price, it's still overpriced, but I'd play it again with a Golfnow Hotdeal.
brackenridge is back better then ever
course is in great shape. pace of play was the best part of the round, right at 4 hours like it should be everywhere. only complaint was no beverage cart out there that day.
Nice course
This course as a lot of trees so you have to play smart golf. But the course has a nice layout.
Very good challenge
Fun layout. Makes you think about what shot you're going to hit. Wish the traps hadn't been so soggy. Greens were interesting at first to read but a fun challenge. Can't wait to go back
Good, but...
This was our first time playing this course. We heard/read a lot of great things about it. It's pretty much back and forth, fairly straight so not too difficult in that regard. However, the trickiest part is that most of the greens are surrounded by sand traps. So, unless you are great with your wedge, rolling up on the green is very difficult. And speaking of the greens, some were squares or rectangles and I have never seen such a thing. Course conditions for time of year were good. Staff was friendly. But if I had to pay full price, I would rather play the Hyatt courses on west side of San Antonio, they offer better variety of same good conditions. Prices for drinks were fair, but no cart came around on a 100 degree day!
nice
Course was well kept, as were the greens. Laser range finders come in handy when finding out distance from hole. Very friendly staff. Well worth the money we got on for. Only complaint is that they have no driving range, so we went to one before our round. All-in-all I will be back, and recommend as a must play in SA.
Great shape and great history
Pretty challenging course with a lot of history. Course was in great shape. Lots of tall trees to add to the challenge, greens were in pretty decent condition. The only bummer was that I thought I was going to play by myself, but when I showed up to the course, they paired me up with a random couple with more experience than me. Turned out to be ok, since it was an older couple and they were nice. I'll definitely play this course again, but not in the summer, it was way too hot.
Classic Course
classisc, old course with very old trees. the course was in great shape, and the pace of play on a weekend afternoon at a municipal course was excellent.
Historic course
Course is beautiful. It plays very well. Has more bunkers than most courses I've played.
Beautiful, historic course.
Great course, guy at front desk a little rude. But once on the course all was forgotten.
A few surprises
The course was in great condition and the laser distance finders provided in the cart were helpful, but without pictures of the hole layout there were a few surprises such as unexpected water hazards in front of greens and unknown distances to fairway bunkers.
Great customer service!
Great course ! Not too dificult . Will recommend to friends and family!
