Brackenridge Park Golf Course
About
Brackenridge Park Golf Course, which is the oldest public golf course in Texas, was the first ever host to the Texas Open Golf Tournament in 1922. This historic golf course has the honor of being the first inductee into the Texas Golf Hall of Fame. Brackenridge Park may not be as challenging to today’s golfers, but it is still an entertaining round. The layout has a tight front nine with plenty of trees, demanding accurate tee shots. The back nine is more open, subjecting it to strong winds. Water comes into play on a few holes and there are also numerous doglegs and well-placed bunkers to watch out for. Elevated greens and tight fairways lined with trees add to the challenge at Brackenridge Park Golf Course.

This course is tight!
It was a bit tough, it plays as a links style, but it was GREAT!! It was windy but we were on a golf course so all was right with the world!!
Great track
The course is a tight little driving course and the greens are firm and super fast, will hold shots with good spin. We had a great time and it's an easy course to walk which we did. Pace of play was decent for a Saturday. Lots of bunkers so bring your sand game.
A Treasure
You won't find greens such as these at many if any Municipal courses. The Par 3's are outstanding examples of Tillinghast at his best (6200 yards). For women and shorter hitters it is one of the best courses you can play just about anywhere. We chose to play the course because we are both panelists for a national magazine ranking Top 100 and best in state courses as one of our motivations, we are also Tillinghast Association members, we were in no way disappointed. Pace of play was just under 4 hours on a Monday in November.
The routing of the course is a joy to walk, don't take a cart, walk this gem. The only caveat is that for today's modern equipment, most of the par 4's are to be considered shortish, but the greens provide challenge to any player. Please note that this is not a ***** from just anyone, this is a wonderful golf course.
Great overall experience
The greens were in perfect condition...very fast and true. The on-cart rangefinder was useful. The mini-museum in the clubhouse is not to be missed. All members of my foursome were delighted.
the course is always in good condition
Love tha pace of play. Im averaging less than four hours for a foursome on a Saturday.
An uncommon Texas golf course, lots of tall trees!
The course was in good shape, but was very, very short. As a 7 handicapper who drives the ball 300+, wasn't very challenging. No driving range, which always takes away from the experience, but it's rare to find a Texas golf course with tree lined fairways and very tall tress. Being the oldest public course in Texas means the course is very mature and was very nice to play. I would recommend it to someone, but not if you're a lower handicap or longer hitter.
Dodge ball course
The course was convenient to downtown and the staff was very friendly. There was no driving range there though. Had to go to the 1st tee facility close by. A neat feature attached to the carts was a distance finder.
The big problem was dodging balls coming from other fairways. Almost got hit at least 3 times. Fairways are that close.
