As both a player and instructor, Peggy Gustafson has become proficient
at golf. She entered the golf industry after graduating from Houston Baptist
University in 1981 with a degree in Recreation and History. Beginning
her career as a teaching professional and pro shop manager at the Houston
Golf Academy, she then went on to became the first woman professional
on staff at Pine Forest Country Club.
In 1988, Peggy won the Pecan Grove Classic, a Futures Tour event. She
qualified and competed in both the 1989 and 1993 US Women's Open, won
the 1995 and 1996 Top-Flite/Etonic LPGA Team Classic Pro-Am, placed second
in the 1998 Colorado Women's Open, and competed in the 1998 McDonalds
LPGA Tour Championship. She was the 1995 LPGA T&CP National Long Drive
Champion, and is currently the 1998 LPGA T&CP Central Section Champion,
having placed second in 1988 and 1996. In addition, she has competed and
placed in many other LPGA Section and National tournaments.
Peggy has taught golf on all levels. She has developed and conducted successful
beginning and intermediate women's golf clinics, 1, 2 and 3 day golf schools,
created Golf Fore Dummies and First Time Out, a program for new golfers.
She is an instructor at the nationally recognized Gillette LPGA Women's
Golf Clinic in Houston and Dallas, and the Crayola LPGA Tour Junior Golf
Clinic prior to the JC Penney's LPGA Skins Game at Stonebriar Country
Club in Frisco, TX. In addition, Peggy has conducted clinics for the Executive
Women's Golf League, Professional Business Women's Golf Network, and Ladies
Playing Golf. She is a featured participant in Oshman Sporting Goods Women
in Sports Week and American Golf's Women's Golf Day.
An LPGA Class A member of the Teaching and Club Professional Division,
Peggy was chosen as the 1998 LPGA Central Section Teacher of the Year.
A prestigious award annually bestowed to the member who has distinguished
herself among her peers in the exclusive area of teaching juniors, seniors,
special populations, women's and men's golf, and students of prominence.
She is currently an LPGA Member Advisor, National Education Teaching Evaluator,
Site Director for the LPGA Girls Golf Club of Houston, and has served
as a member of the National and Section Championship committees. Her list
of prominent students includes, LPGA T&CP National Champion, Piper
Wagner, and some of Houston's top amateurs who have competed on the local
state and national level. Peggy is a certified club fitter for Ping, Top-Flite
and Golfsmith.
In 1992, Peggy founded Proficient Golf as a means for providing a variety
of programs to golfers whether they are trying golf for the first time
or simply trying to improve their game. The school has instruction programs
designed for beginners that provide superior instruction in a non-threatening
and enjoyable environment, and programs catering to the intermediate or
advanced player with private instruction, video analysis and on course
play.
