TravelGolf.com: God Bless America's Military Golf Courses
By Douglas Carey, Contributor
With many reservists being called to duty, we join the country in turning our attention
to the U.S. military. In this week's feature story, senior writer David R. Holland takes a special
look at
America's Military Golf Courses as part of his continuing On The Road series.
A retired Air Force Lt. Colonel who served during the Vietnam era and Desert Storm,
Holland traveled all over the world during his career. Here he highlights the miliary's best
courses, including the Air Force Academy's Eisenhower Blue Course in Colorado Springs.
GolfArizona.com: Heading North in Arizona
It's one of the true mysteries of Arizona golf. Officials from Flagstaff to Prescott
wonder why
northern Arizona doesn’t attract more in-state and out-of-state golfers.
Senior writer Shane Sharp says it's well worth the drive to find courses such as the
Sedona Golf Resort layout, a Gary Panks design.
"There are more traffic jams, air pollution, and five hour rounds in the Valley of the
Sun than there are Sedona, Flagstaff, or Prescott," he writes.
OldDominionGolf.com: Partake In The Pursuit Of Happiness
For those seeking a break from the daily grind, senior writer Jeffrey A. Rendall
recommends a trip to the
Keswick Club at Monticello, located just minutes
from the beautiful city of Charlottesville and the University of Virginia.
"The 600 acre Keswick Estate not only boasts incredible luxury and
the ‘set-apart’ atmosphere," Rendall says, "it’s got an incredible Arnold Palmer
signature golf course to help you escape from crowded golf reality for
a few rounds."
MyrtleBeachGolf.com: Setting the Bar in the Grand Strand
Kudos to web designer Sam Stevens for her work in redesigning the MyrtleBeachGolf.com site,
which now features easier navigation tools and improved graphics. We tee off the new look with
a special report from the
Caledonia Golf and Fish Club, which has distanced itself not only from its South
Strand siblings, but also from almost every other course in Myrtle Beach.
In this two-part series, Shane Sharp offers an in-depth review of the course and a profile of
Caledonia designer Mike Strantz,
one of the industry's hottest names. "Caledonia is one of the top three courses on the Strand, and you
must play this course at some point in your travels," Sharp writes.
MichiganGolf.com: Jim Engh Lives Up to the Hype
When senior writer Kiel Christianson arrived for media day at the
Tullymore Golf Course in western Mid-Michigan, he had already heard about the hype.
Course architect Jim Engh, whose work has garnered immense critical and
public acclaim, had never worked in
Michigan before, and he brought with him a number of design techniques that
cannot be found anywhere else in the state. Fortunately, Tullymore doesn't disappoint.
Said Christianson: "Golfers at Tullymore will encounter deep rivulets of blazing white sand
creeping around green complexes that look like they were imported directly
from Ireland’s best courses."

European Club, the first new links course to be built in Ireland for nearly 100 years.
From the Rough: Spotlight on the Carolinas
With many golfers hesitant to fly in the wake of this month's tragedy,
we sent contributing writer Shane Sharp in search of an ideal golf destination in the heart of
the Carolinas. He returned with a report from the
Seabrook Island Resort, located a half-hour south of downtown Charleston.
"(Seabrook’s 36 holes) offers thousands of golfers a first-rate Low Country resort
experience within driving distance of some of the southeast’s largest metropolitan areas," said Sharp,
who also included a sidebar on the
positive impact women are having at the resort.
Coming this Fall: ScotlandGolf.com Spectactular
TravelGolf.com Senior Writer David R. Holland is heading for Scotland,
the birth place of golf, and you can read about his adventures in
his On the Road to Scotland column and individual course reviews.
Holland will be staying and playing at some of Scotland's legendary
spots -- The Old Course at St. Andrews, Turnberry and Gleneagles.
This fall be sure and check out two more of Holland's On the Road

As always, if you disagree with our reviewers on a certain course
or just want to sound off about the latest from the PGA Tour, be
sure to visit the GolfBoards.com
website, a series of message boards where visitors can write about
everything from the Myrtle Beach golf scene to new equipment. There's
also a free classifieds section where golfers can advertise that
old set of clubs they've been meaning to sell for years. And if
you haven't checked it out already, be sure to visit the new TravelGolf.com
Pro Shop, a joint venture with The Golf Warehouse. With all
of this at TravelGolf.com, there's no need to go anywhere else on
the Web.
Until next week....God bless America.
