Why is it that eveytime I read an item on this website it usually sounds like bitter apples from you. Mr. McDonald, what are you so bitter about? Leave Tiger Woods alone and just report the facts. I certainly don't want to hear your opinion. Just tell me the facts about the story. Thats It.

>YAWN!< So El Tigre decided the real money is in designing courses, eh? Predictible, really. What are people crying about it? It should provide for a completely different style of golf. Who's afraid of 270-yard forced carries? Given Tiger's prowness in putting, expect large greens with lots of movement, oh, yeah, Tiger likes them fast. I would imagine that due to Tiger's driving problems, there won't be many trees in the landing areas...HIS landing areas (read: 330 yards from tee), everyone else will find ice plant waiting for their wayward drives.
Oh yeah, all the bunkers will be shaped like NIKE swooshes.
Lastly, if Big Jack can charge one million bucks for HIS signature course designs, expect Tiger to charge $1.5 mil...after all, it's just another of Jack's records to beat.

A million dollars? Jack hasn't charged a measly mill for a course since back when he was wearing those hideous plaid slacks and sporting those Munsingwear shirts with the huge collars! Shoot, any nimrod with Tour win or two can get a million bucks for designing a course.

yesterday played the Peninsula CC in San Mateo, CA for first time(Tiger probably has been on this course, as it lies within thirty minutes of Stanford). This is a Donald Ross design, and one he could be proud of. What a wonderful layout. An old(founded 1911) traditional (houses on the East side of course, only) track. Ross was imaginative with his routing over the hilly tract. The most interesting aspect are the greens - not as severe as Pinehurst#2, but challenging and innovative. This is a course I would never get tired of playing. It is a hidden jewel. (Another interesting aspect: as stern a test as it is, it has no water hazards.)

What is the problem? If I was Tiger and someone wanted me to design a golf course and were going to pay me, I would do it. If there was not a market for it, he wouldn't be doing it. I have played some golfer designed courses and they are both good and bad. Guess what! I have played some non-golfer designed courses and they were both good and bad. No one is forced to play any course - so play it or not, I am sure that Tiger will not loose any sleep either way. Let the man do want he wants and focuse your life on something that matters.

How does a professional athlete all of a sudden say, "I'm going to be a designer."? Is it ego? You don't see football players designing stadiums. So tennis players design clothes... ask the Williams sisters how that's working out for them. I'm not saying Tiger has nothing to offer. I'm sure he has a point of view based on is experiences - which is another way of saying, "I'll copy someone elses design and stamp my name on it." There are some, maybe a few... ok, one player that can design courses and even he's smart enough to partner with somebody that actually does the work - of course I'm speaking of Coore and Crenshaw. The answer to How do we protect ourselves from Tiger is simple; Hire Rees Jones. After a couple of years when the novelty has worn off, Rees Jones will bulldoze the Tiger Tracks and make them golf courses.

Either you, and some others here, are not paying attention to what is written, or whenever there is a spoken or written word involving his name, it causes negativity in you.
He is "forming a design company". Just like Mr. Palmer, Jack, and Ben Crenshaw. Tiger is an experienced, intelligent, and talented man and golfer. I believe his design company will be a "group effort" that will probably result in the same excellence as his other off-course endeavors. And, maybe that is what grinds your butt to the bone. Get over it, or be miserable for another ten+ years.

Judging by your response, it's still you. But, it must be really difficult for you...carrying the burden of always being right in your assessment of other people. Even those of whom you have only a passing knowledge. It must be tough!!!

Tiger need something else to take his focas off golf. Him and the other part time players need something to keep them busy. It's hard for me to relate to a pro golfer who plays 15 rounds a week with someone else carrying his bag, works 15 weeks a year, and complains that he is tired.
