My wife and I just returned from celebrating our 25th anniversary in Kauai and Maui. This article hit the nail on the head. Between the natural beauty, incredibly hospitable population, great beaches and golf; who missed the nightlife. Poipu Bay was a perfect setting to watch the whales from virtually every hole on the back nine as well as a few on the front. A birdie on 18 was the iceing on the cake as they say. My biggest mistake was waiting 25 years to go there! I would think twice about visiting the Carribean even though it is closer to the East Coast where I live due to the attitude of the locals. Great service in all restaurants, hotels and golf courses made this an exceptional experience and one that I will talk about for years to come. Maui was also great but for a genuine Aloha experience, include Kauai in your planning. If you can make it in February through early March, the whales are abundant and can be seen virtually everywhere. I would compare the visual experience with Pebble Beach but more accessible and by far more reasonable from a cost perspective. Princeville to the north is too beautiful for words and of course the golf was great to say the least. There is truely something for every level of player on Kauai!

We always love going to Kauai for all the reasons you mention. We've played the "Big 3" and many of the smaller courses too.
We'll be going back in October - we have a child living there and they are expecting a grand baby for us then! - can you provide the names of all nine of the courses - we must be missing some.
I'd love to write an article for you, if you are so inclined. Maybe... "Kauai to the Nines"
I've written for a variety of magazines and newspapers and am a published author. See www.roadtripdream.com
