THIS WEEK:

TravelGolf.com:
Roaring into December with AdonaiGolf Tours

By Douglas Carey,
Contributor

Thanksgiving week was a busy one here at TravelGolf.com, where we received news that Forbes Magazine has named us among the "Best of the Web" in its December issue. Our daily site was selected from among hundreds of sports and travel based web sites by the highly respected financial publication as the best online source of travel and golf news, features, and the most efficient, competitively priced source for booking golf vacation packages.

The week was also highlighted with our announced partnership with AdonaiGolf Tours, which is working to promote South Africa as one of the world's most sought after golfing destinations. In a special client feature, we profile the company and its tour director, Andre McDonald, who says South Africa has much to offer travelers. "South Africa is a many-splendored interaction of natural wonders, ultra-modern facilities, fascinating cultural imprints and reminders of a dynamic history - in the most breathtakingly beautiful and varied settings imaginable."

Archives: This Week at TravelGolf.com

It comes as no surprise to those who read contributing writer Shane Sharp's three-part series on Wilmington, North Carolina that he absolutely loved the city. Featuring one of the most vibrant downtowns in the state, Wilmington is also the focus of Sharp's current column. Titled "From the 19th Hole," the column runs every week, and you can find it now on the front page of TravelGolf.com next to his picture. For more on Wilmington's restaurant scene, visit our dining guide, complete with capsule reviews of the area's best bets in everything from pizza to seafood.

GolfFlorida.com: Calling All Snowbirds

It's just about the time snowbirds from up north migrate to the warm weather on the central west coast of Florida, and senior writer Joe Bruno has done some advance scouting. He begins with a look at the Heritage Harbor Golf Club, located in the town of Lutz, just 30 minutes from the Tampa airport. And while you're at this unique recreational complex, Bruno recommends a visit to the Bern's Steak House, where reservations are a must.

More from Florida: A Sarasota Double Play

Bruno also checks in from Sarasota, home to the Village Green Golf Club and the nearby Paddy Wagon Pub. For those who like to play golf in three hours or less, playing one of the area's few executive par-58 golf courses is the way to go. Built on an orange grove in the '60s, Village Green features plenty of trees and a challenging quick round. Afterward, be sure to stop by the Paddy Wagon, an authentic Irish Pub in the heart of Sarasota.

MyrtleBeachGolf.com: Spotlight on Magnolia Greens

shane Sharp continues his coverage from Wilmington with a two-part package from Magnolia Greens Golf Plantation, which has gained quite a reputation as the best course to play on the way to and from the Grand Strand. "With 27 holes, a solid selection of golf villas, and a location just 10 minutes from downtown historic Wilmington, Magnolia Greens easily stands on its own as one of the area's premier golfing destinations," Sharp writes. In his reporter's notebook, Sharp highlights several of the key holes at Magnolia Greens, including the original finishing hole at Magnolia Nine, the 592-yard, par-5 18th.

From the 19th Hole: Quick Shots from Florida and More

At GolfFlorida.com, Joe Bruno heads to Bradenton for a review of the River Run Golf Links, where the price is right and the course is more than a little pleasant....At MyrtleBeachGolf.com, Shane Sharp reports on the current state of air travel in the Grand Strand... Sharp also checks in from GolfArizona.com with a company profile of Stand-by Golf, which is helping many golfers grab last-minute tee times at reasonable rates...Finally, be sure to visit GolfCalifornia.com for Jeffrey Weidel's review of Sacramento's Bartley Cavanaugh Golf Course, where accuracy is the key.

From the Rough: Spotlight on Golf Instruction

In case you missed last week's report, be sure to check out contributing writer Shane Sharp's overview on golf schools, which begins with his comment on the amount of work that goes into each session. "Most schools have schedules that have sessions running right up against one another with little or no breaks in between," he writes. In part two, Sharp reveals the most common misconceptions people have about golf schools, not the least of which is that the experience is often viewed as a golf vacation. And before you head out, be sure to review our list of the top 10 questions you must ask before deciding on a golf school.

As always, if you disagree with our reviewers on a certain course or just want to sound off about the latest from the PGA Tour, be sure to visit the GolfBoards.com website, a series of message boards where visitors can write about everything from the Myrtle Beach golf scene to new equipment. There's also a free classifieds section where golfers can advertise that old set of clubs they've been meaning to sell for years. And if you haven't checked it out already, be sure to visit the TravelGolf.com Pro Shop, a joint venture with The Golf Warehouse. With all of this at TravelGolf.com, there's no need to go anywhere else on the Web.

Until next week...God bless America.
