TravelGolf.com: Cowboys Come Up Winners on the Links
By Douglas Carey, Special Projects Coordinator
According to senior writer David R. Holland, it's no surprise that the Dallas Cowboys
have introduced the world’s first NFL-themed golf course. Fortunately, the course rates much
better than this year's team. Located just below Grapevine Dam,
Cowboys Golf Club opened in June 2001 to rave reviews. Holland says it's
a "unique new golf course that is destined to become known as one of the best daily-fee
courses in Texas."
As part of his visit, Holland also sat down with course architect
Jeff Brauer, whose Golf Scapes firm has designed 40 golf courses and remodeled
80 throughout the country. A transplanted Texan, Brauer now has projects in Texas,
California, Kansas, Missouri, Minnesota, and Illinois, including the new Colbert
Hills Golf Course at Kansas State University.
LasVegasGolf.com: More of Sin City’s Best
Contributing writer Shane Sharp continues his best-of series at LasVegasGolf.com with a special
look at the
best par-4's in the area, including
Siena Golf Club's , Par-4, 420-yard 9th hole.
"Las Vegas is home to some of the world’s most breathtaking, challenging golf courses, and
likewise, some of the best par-4’s you’ll ever run up against," Sharp writes. "Play some of these holes and you
might just have visions of par-4’s dancing in your head." After reading about the best par-4's, be sure
to check out Sharp's features on the best
par-3's and par-5's in Sin City.
OldDominionGolf.com: Fazio Shines in Virginia
Following a week in California, senior writer Jeffrey A. Rendall returns with a review
of the brand new
Independence Golf Club in Midlothian, Virginia.
Rendall says the Tom Fazio design is a terrific blend of all Virginia has to offer, with
some ups and downs, some wetlands, some water, lots of trees and beauty that’s hard to equal. The golf
"(Fazio) has provided some incredibly wide driving avenues, but keeps you
honest with intelligent bunkering and well thought out green complexes," Rendall writes.
GolfArizona.com: Just in Time for the Holidays
With the holiday shopping season in full swing, staff writer Ray Bangs has dipped into
the Arizona golf scene and selected
seven courses that are perfect for the holiday season, including the Raven Golf Club
at South Mountain in Phoenix (at right). "If you’re looking for the perfect way to spend that week off between Christmas Day and New
Year’s Eve, these are seven fantastic Phoenix-area courses," Bangs writes. Other courses featured
here include the TPC of Scottsdale, the Superstition Springs Golf Club and the
the Golf Club at Eagle Mountain in Fountain Hills.
GolfCarolina.com: A True Value in Charlotte
Shane Sharp continues his series on the Top 10 Best
Values of Charlotte with a look at the
Waterford Golf Club, which was cleverly designed
by Senior Tour star Hale Irwin. Like many Charlotte area courses,
Waterford features immaculately groomed bent grass greens that just keep getting
better as the weather gets cooler. Our fifth-best value in Charlotte,
Waterford is especially playable for women, and there's a conspicuous lack of housing
on Waterford’s fairways and greens.
From the 19th Hole: Quick Shots from Alabama and More
At TravelGolf.com, David R. Holland brings us another installment of his popular "On the Road"
series with a visit to Gulf Shores in
Alabama, which features 32 miles of sugar-white sand beaches and
world-class coastal golf...Staff writer Carla Harvey checks in from Spain with
a special look at
Costa Ballena Golf, where José María Olazabel designed the main 18-hole course...
At GolfFlorida.com, Derek Duncan reviews the
Dunes Golf Club at Seville, a relatively little mentioned Arthur Hills course that opened
in 1988. Even though it's not particularly famous, Duncan
says it's a thought provoking, cut-above golf course in a beautiful and isolated setting.
