TravelGolf.com This Week's Buzz

Doug Carey This Week at TravelGolf.com: April 27, 2004

When it comes to golf, I'm a disciple of John Daly's approach: Grip it and rip it. Those people who say golf is a good walk spoiled? They're probably thinking too much. That said, I'm not discounting the importance of some strategy - especially not after reading Derek Duncan's new column on the topic.

In part one of his series, Duncan attempts to define strategy as a means of judging a golf course. As you'll see, it's more difficult than you might think. Having already read part two (which focuses on several specific courses, including Augusta National), I can tell you we've assigned the right man for this challenging task.

While we ponder the impact of strategy on the game, I invite you to peruse a few of the letters we received last week in response to my notes on cheating in golf. According to a recent BadGolfer.com poll, 70 percent of all golfers cheat at golf. Our hope is that 100 percent of you check out our usual full roster of reviews and travel features this week. As always, your comments are welcome on any topic. Have a great week.

Carlton Oaks Golf Course Best affordable golf in
and around San Diego

Not everyone can afford to play the meccas. Some of us simply want to have a few suds, shank a few balls, gamble a few bucks, crash a few carts, hit on a few beer girls and drop a few quarters in the Golden Tee machine on something just a little bit better than a dog track. Well, San Diego is just such a place, if you know where to go.

Today's golfer can combine a visit to this pivotal Civil War site and get in a round of golf on one of several fine courses.
