On the same day the original "Weezie" received a star on Hollywood's Walk of Fame, Michelle Wie's road to stardom began at the PGA Tour's Sony Open. All due respect to Isabel Sanford's Mrs. Jefferson, but it's now clear the "Big Wiesy" is the one movin' on up these days. Wie's performance came as no surprise to her instructor, Florida-based Gary Gilchrist, who told our Brent Kelley that the 14-year-old is better than Ernie Els was at that age. I still question whether its appropriate to put 14-year-old kids under an international spotlight, but there's no denying the Big Wiesy's unlimited potential. Wie's success will likely spark another surge in women's golf, just as our Cynthia Boal Janssens reports on her new year's resolutions. Even though they're written from a women's perspective, many of them apply to every golfer. Start by resolving to check out our usual full roster of reviews and travel features, including our best of 2003 package, including a look at California, next stop on the PGA Tour's West Coast Swing. As always, your questions and comments are welcome. Have a great week.

Carlton Golf worth a second look
The Carlton Classic Ti Driver -- all 400ccs of brushed-nickel and jet-black finish -- represents perhaps the best value available for golfers who either already like oversized drivers, or who would just like to experiment with them. We can't guarantee you'll be able to hit it like Tiger Woods, but we do guarantee you'll love the rock-bottom price.

The Bandit, The Buckhorn and The Republic are three dandy golf courses from Foresight Golf, all for less than $50. Award-winning writer David R. Holland recently took a tour of the three, and he found something to like at every stop. They aren't necessarily that easy to get to, but that's part of the attraction, as you will see.
