This Week at TravelGolf.com: March 16, 2004
It's a great day when the travel golfer can play one of the best golf courses in the world, but two in one week? Senior writer David R. Holland, GolfCalifornia.com's initial staff writer six years ago, recently had the good fortune to play both Pebble Beach and Cypress Point.
Cypress Point, one of the most exclusive private clubs in the world, is a rare invitation. If a country club member asks for reciprocal play, his phone call will not be returned. Look for Holland's historical feature about the Alister MacKenzie gem soon. Also during his week in Monterey, Holland helped Bayonet celebrate its 50th birthday and managed to play both Poppy Hills and the new Jack Nicklaus private club Pasadera.
While we all live vicariously through Holland this week, be sure
to check out our usual full roster of reviews and travel features,
plus our new column
by contributing writer Shane Sharp on the PGA Tour. As always, your
comments
are welcome on any topic. Have a great week.

For the novice, Pebble Beach Golf Links is tough. There are constant
distractions from the scenery -- beautiful vistas in every direction,
Monterey cypress trees, and emerald-green fairways. The rounds can be
six
hours long and the $380 greens fee is way too high. But if you get the
chance, do whatever you can to play one of the best courses you'll ever
find.

Lightweight is the buzz word for the next generation of golf bags. Stand

carry bags are coming with more organization
and ease of access for the golfers. Callaway, Nike and Titleist all are
getting into the game with new models, and that's
good for the consumers. We'll review three of the better ones on the
market
and predict what the future holds for 2004.

From Carolina to San Antone, from Vegas to Biloxi, from Austin to
Gulfport,
there are plenty of places to play good
quality golf and still catch all the action on the hardcourt. It's the
time
of year when those who chase the little white
ball turn their attention to the roundballers. But one doesn't have to
live
in isolation from the other. Here's where to find the hottest places to
get
the best of both worlds.
