Most golf travel reporters' reports are quite obviously "puffs" financed by the free trips, etc. I used to be in the PR business some 35 years ago and know the signs.
As a retired Scot living in Luxembourg, I've played golf nearly all over the world. But I don't do $150 green fees; I don't do $200 a night hotels: I don't do $100 a head restaurants!
There are great golf courses all over Europe ( and, I'm sure, in other parts of the world) where you can play for normal USA "pay-and-play" green fees (say $40-50), you can get a studio apartment or small hotel for $50-75 a night and you can eat locally for £30-50 a head, with the house wine (it's a little more difficult in the UK where green fees have become a bit expensive, but it's still possible)!
Why can't we hear about them? I could write about them and, I'm sure, so could other "normal guy" golfers. Why not create a reporting service where us mortals, not millionaires, could consider golf vacations at reasonable price with an honest report on the bad as well as the good.
