| Duval's Bravery |

Chris Baldwin's piece on David Duval is so revealing...it reveals Baldwin as an unfunny and sightless fool. David Duval, putting himself "out there" in the midst of such struggles illustrates an ego in check and the heart of a champion at the same time.

Wow. What a real in-depth piece of "journalism." You could have stopped with the headline and provided as much information.

When I look at David Duval play now, and I am a Duval fan, I think about Chip Beck. Beck has never been one to give up and even as he struggles on the Nationwide tour, he still can't find it after all these years. I wouldn'r be at all surprised if the same thing happens to Duval. He may tuly be through as a competitive player.

Fred, I have paid close attention to your inept and discriminatory responses in the past. You are one very mean-spirited, socially unhealthy individual...not qualified to comment on, or to judge, my intelligence.

I agree, Duval's story is an extremely compelling one that almost all golfers can relate to. Who hasn't shot the round of their life one week and sunk to 20 over the next? But you argue that this is a good story without actually getting in to it. Instead, you give us a bunch of kind of silly analogies to tell us what we already know: Duval sucks now and he was once the best in the world. I thought this site was about serious golf journalism but I guess it's just another blog. Anyone with a pulse and a keyboard could have fired this off in five minutes and a couple googles. Why don't you call Duval or people who know him and find out what happened? Tell the story you say is so compelling.

That's my question as well. If it's been overlooked -- which it has, why not dive in and find the scoop?

Nick, if you would like to write a true story backed by irrefutable evidence e-mail me.
PS, I believe I could get Duval Back into the top ten in a month.

Nick, the reason why all those top golfers drop off the leader boards is quite simple. They lose the FEEL of the swing that used to produce their expertise and no Coach on earth can return it to them no matter how hard they try, because it needs to be exactly repeated (without variation), long enough to again dominate their swing for that FEEL to return and the confidence of performing it to return.
Tiger and VJ with their ability may also be slump candidates as all the other tour pro's because they do not have any way to backup the Feel of their best swing performance

| The rise and fall David Duval |
August 23, 2005, 11:35 am |
by Dave
I started the fall of David Duval! Yes, I can take credit for it and I'm all too pleased to do so. At a Skins match played at "Le Diable" in Mont Trembling several years ago, I was standing behind a water cooler placed on the tee box of a par 3. Duval walked up to grab some water and I jokingly said, "Hey Dave, do you want me to hit this one and stick it nice and close for you?" Clearly, by the inflection in my voice, I was being sarcastic. Duval looked me up and down and with a disgusted look said, "I think I have a better chance of doing that, don't you?" He then turned and walked away. Well yes, I thought to myself, you do have a MUCH better chance of doing so, but I was joking a**hole. I looked at one of the event staff members who had overheard this exchange and he said that Duval had been like that all day - surly. Ever since my little chat with Duval, he’s been terrible and, as you can imagine, I’m none too sad about his fall from grace. I wouldn’t think to make any comments to golfers during tournament play, but a Skins game is for the “fans”… it’s supposed to be fun. Sure, they’re playing for money, but it’s still “for fun”. While John Daly was buying up the entire Hagen-Daas cooler and throwing ice-cream bars into the gallery, Duval was grimacing his way around the course. Ain’t karma a b*tch Dave!? Have fun being a driving range pro in a couple months.

Chris, you have to give David credit for not giving up. Many a PGA professional would have retired and gone to the back forty to pasture.

Chris, I can identify with David's demise, as I had back surgery a couple of years ago and my ability to play the game also went south. I was playing in the single digits and driving the ball with the best of them and today I am lucky to shoot in the 80's and a drive of 220 yards would be remarkable. I guess I am one of those guys who will never shoot his age because the older I get the worst I get.

Chris, as much as I support your approach of provoking your readers to many levels of response with your edgy commentary, your unprovoked attack on David Duval is unnecessary and unwanted. Picking on the unfortunante situation of a person is the work of a bully and a coward. In addition, the much used phrase,"Oh, but for the grace of God...", fits us all. There is no telling what circumstances can change us from a have to a have not, homeowner to the homeless, and proficient to inept. Careful Chris, God is watching!!

Good lord, Ivory! Did you really read this as an "attack" on Duval!? I didn't get that at all.
