media rebels? March 11, 2005, 1:53 pm

by Pat Brockwell
I've got to try again to get your attention at Travelgolf. You are trying to be a whistle blower on your own peers, but dig yourselves. When I check your course guide, under the New Mexico home page you have a Puerto Vallarta course featured, have all fall and winter. Please note that New Mexico is in the USA and Vista Vallarta is in Mexico, a different country. Who is churning PR and not checking facts at your office? Your creds are lacking on this issue.

Hero worship? March 8, 2005, 11:37 am

by Sal Casolaro
Can anyone explain to me why Tiger Woods' name is always listed first at whatever number he has posted? There may be a dozen golfers with the same score but his name is always listed first. After three rounds of leading the Doral Mickelson's name was listed second even though he and Woods were tied for the lead.
Was the shot Woods hit to the green (at Doral)(320yards) really the greatest shot that announcer had ever seen? How many other golfers on the Tour can hit a drive 320? Time to get a less fawning announcer? Me thinks so.
The press seems to have forgotten about Vijay. Remember him? Nine wins, $10 million in winnings, number one golfer in the world. Apparantely the unbiased press has conceded the number one ranking back to Woods.
It will be a long time before I go back to watching golf on TV.

Media code! March 8, 2005, 10:32 am

by Becky Blanton
Hoorah for Tim McDonald and rebels everywhere who break the media code! I was just asked to shut up and not post so much on the poynter.org website after my previous employer - Landmark Communications, Inc. complained because I objected to their "media swap" with local police...ie. we won't write about bad/dirty cops if you'll feed us news stories about child molesters and inside tipsters. It's not just GOLF and sports where this crap goes on. The American public suffers everywhere - courtesy of lazy journalists. I raise my cup to Tim. The result, I'm sure, will be better writing, more interest and fan loyalty to the truth!
