| Walk and Play Golf |

I am 66 and play with a kid of 61.
A while back we were on the 18th tee and were looking at the group that teed of behind us which was now halfway up the 10th fairway.
4 fat guys in their mid-twenties on carts!
I said, "David, that's bloody disgusting, look at those 4 fat buggers on carts."
Dave looked at me and said, "Stop your whining. 20 years from now they'll be dead and we'll have the place to ourselves!"
PS - The 2 of us play in slightly over 2 hours. When we're joined by our other 2 regulars (72 and 60 years old respectively), it takes slightly under 3 hours.

Mike,
Very good. Better yet I use a remote golf caddy to follow me with my bag.
I get the same exercise without getting tired.
Regards,
Leon

Did you know that walking and carrying your clubs means burning more than 1,000 calories a round? Try getting a 1,000-calorie workout on your Stairmaster. Not fun.

Mike,
Nice article on fat Americans. A good reporter should experience their subjects in the fullest way possible and from the looks of your double chin in your photo you really immersed yourself in this one. Well done big boy!
Regards,
Keth

It's Mark.
And you should have seen me before I started walking 18 instead of riding! So, yeah, you could say I have the zeal of a convert. ;-)

| Fatties & Carts |

Amen, brother! Carts are killing the game. I went to Scotland last year, played 11 days in a row on strictly links courses and walked every round. Nirvana! I don't think it was any coincidence that I shot my career best round either. (But don't deny me those chili-fries, dude!)

Four years ago, at age 55, I was diagnosed with diabetes. Came to realize the AMA/ADA suggested diet—40% of calories in carbs—was a death sentence guaranteed to keep the docs, labs, drug companies and processed-food companies rich. So I went on a low-carb life style and bought an exercise machine. The exercise machine lasted about 2 weeks. Then I took up golf at a local course where you can walk every day. I average four 9-hole rounds per week carrying a full set on my back and sometimes play 18 holes, which I can easily do because I am now in great shape. (Eighteen was a big challange four years ago.) Have lost 55 lbs and have kept if off and have a 15 handicap. Life is good.
