As a Canadian I recall the epic battle between Tiger and Grant Waite at the 2000 Canadian Open at Glen Abbey. Tiger was trying become the first golfer since Trevino to win the British, U.S. and Canadian Open titles in one season.(Remember the Canadian Open used to be considered the 5th major in golf). Woods and Waite were tied heading into the final round and proceeded to match each other, shot for shot, with a barrage of birdies, culminating in Tiger's now famous 6 iron out of the bunker over water from 218 yards to a sliver of a back right pin. Tiger outlasted with a 65 compared to Waite's 66. No, Grant Waite is not a houselhold name, but the stirring battle they staged in 2000 will be remembered by most Canadians for many years to come.
