TravelGolf.com This Week's Buzz

Doug Carey This Week at TravelGolf.com: Jan. 27, 2004

I'm no TV critic, but I can safely say the new A&E reality show "Airline" is must-see TV for any frequent flyer. Even if you haven't flown in years, you'll enjoy this inside look at the daily operations of Southwest Airlines.

Most people I encounter either love or hate Southwest, and your opinion isn't likely to change after watching the show. If you're like me, though, you'll gain a whole new appreciation for airline customer service agents. Every week I'm surprised by the bizarre situations these agents encounter, and invariably they're able to keep the frustration level at a manageable level. So far nobody's tried to bring a golf bag aboard as carry-on luggage, but I'm sure we'll see it before long.

If you're flying to Houston this week for the Super Bowl, be sure to check out Brendan McEvoy's local golf overview this week at TravelGolf.com. In addition, we'll have our usual full roster of reviews and travel features, including our best of 2003 package, including notes from the PGA Tour's West Coast Swing. As always, your questions and comments are welcome. Have a great week.

Hawaii's best has more luster

The quality of courses on the islands of Hawaii has turned it it into one of the world's great golf destinations. If you haven't ever had the pleasure of enjoying the Hawaii experience, it's time to say "aloha," sniff the fresh flower leis, and get out the clubs. "Like the islands, Hawaii golf continues to grow and mature," writes Don Chapman. In fact, the islands have so much great golf in exotic settings that it might just be crazy to go anywhere else.
