This Week at TravelGolf.com: June 01, 2004
Two weeks ago, staff writer Chris Wallace stirred the pot with his commentary on Pinehurst No. 2, claiming the layout is a tad overrated. As expected, plenty of readers responded. More surprisingly, many of those readers actually agreed with Wallace's opinion. "My group all thought it was a ho-hum course," wrote R. Turski of Mechanicsville, Va. "Totally overrated." Of course, not everyone concurs. Contributing writer Shane Sharp followed Wallace's column with his own commentary last week, claiming that Pinehurst No. 2 lives up to the hype. Sharp, who has played No. 2 five times over the past three years, says he discovers something new about the course every time he visits. "It's as good as it gets, no matter what anybody says to the contrary," Sharp writes.

leaving the game, these mistakes can no longer be ignored. Join
Bobby Weed as he takes a look at five subtle causes of slow play
you might not have noticed.

On the surface, a round played at Bali Hai conjures the sensation
of a journey to the South Pacific. Some 3,500 palm trees and over
100,000 flowers imbue Bali Hai with this tropical feel, and black
lava rock (imported from Utah) completes the South Seas look. As
staff writer Ron Walker reports, the finished product is a 7,015
yard gem that tests, tempts, and ultimately satisfies.
