Wie and Woods July 20, 2005, 8:08 pm

by Gord
Give us a break. "Wie doing just enough not to do anything significant"
I guess shooting in the low 70's is not signifcant. Walk up to Paul Gow, and tell him that. (Please face to face) What 99.9% of the golfers out there were luck to be breaking 80 at 15 years of age. Go trolling in another area, I think readers are getting tired of the hook.

Women Golfers July 19, 2005, 10:59 pm

by Jim
As a 20 yr PGA teaching professional I will tell you that making birdies is different than making Pars. A different talent.
I have seen many ladies who hit the ball far try and play the back tees with the guys. There thought is if they can hang with the guys on longer courses than beating the gals will be easy.
It doesn't work that way. Hitting wedges, management, putting, and mentally shooting low are all learned from competition with your peers.
Harry Vardon said it best when he described how as a youngster you don't feel the pressure to win, but after you have won its always there. Wie does not feel that pressure and thats what is missing.

Written like a true Chauvanist. Get a life and a golf game. The teenager is good and so is Tiger. Either could birdie your golf bag empty. Reminds me of all the bullies running around. Why don't you pick a subject worth discussing instead of writing Rhetorical articles to pump up your inferiority complex.

by Gomerpyle
Just like an idiot to call someone a chauvanist just because they have a dissenting opinion from yourself. How about letting the men play in the LPGA? I already know your answer. So who is the sexist now? I believe you think she deserves to be on the mens tour? She hasn't proven herself anywhere. If anyone deserves to have a shot at the mens tour it's Annika. I read the article and I could not find one chauvanist remarks. Your a big Jerk...

Bravo!!! July 19, 2005, 4:41 pm

by Michael Hall
What a truly positive article. I agree with you. She's a punk! She has a mean father who's trying to push her beyond her years. He has been kicked off events!!!! He's doing more harm than good. Let her compete with the Ladies, beat them, then go after the men. The lady that deserves to go after the men is truly Annika. She's proven that she's a winner, this little smart mouth Wie has done nothing of the sort. A jerk made this comment "Tiger is mature wine; Wie, however, is a great, just bottled vintage, that will be phenomenal with some aging". This may be true, but it still needs to sit in the cellar, age, and the be opened and not sitting at the dinner table being forced down our throats!!!!

Dude, stop listening to your idle Skip Bayless before writing articles like this. Wie has some serious drive to compete against the best in the world. Props to her, she could easily play and mop up on 15 year olds in Hawaii and the states, but that isn't going to improve her game. Going head to head under pressure with the best each week will.
Bothe Wie and Woods are great stories, and Chris you sound like a Hack and a loser.

Your nuts!!! You think being a long hitter is all it takes? In that case I guess with that logic, some of these long drive contest winners should be given exemptions and allowed to play on the tour. Hey Jerk, next time keep your piehole shut and your opinion to your self...

woods vs wie July 19, 2005, 3:26 pm

As an aged, retired Scot who truly believes in the old traditions of golf, let's keep men and women's golf separate. The women, not even Wie when she grows up, just can't compete with the men. US sponsors and tournament organisers should recognise this. If they want to make their tour more interesting, then let's get away from weekend after weekend of 72 holes stroke play and not bring in gimmicks like women golfers. If the women don't like it, fine. Let's have a bunch of men play the ladies tour for a few weeks (and win all the money) and they'll soon change their tune. I'm sure they know where the butter comes from!
As for Tiger, well I'm a Nicklaus fan from way back. I don't want him to take awy Jack's record, but he surely will. And deservedly so. He's the best there is at present and looks like he will be for a long time. As for his caddy Steve, don't criticise him so much as those assholes that leave mobile phones on on the course, click cameras on his backswing and shout "youdaman!" or "in the hole" each time he hits the ball! Is the USA truly populated by idiots? I don't think so, it's a great country with great people, but it's hard to believe sometimes at golf tournaments.
Good luck to Tiger...and I hope he doesn't beat Jack!

WOODS---WOODS July 19, 2005, 12:57 pm

by FRED SELTMAN
WOODS--WOODS---WOODS---WOODS--WOODS.
GIVE ME A BREAK. I HAVE HAD ENOUGH OF THAT CHARACTER TO LAST A LONG TIME.
HE HAS NO CHARACTER--NICE GUY WHEN HE IS WINNING. WHEN HE IS LOOSING HE IS A MEAT HEAD. I CAN'T BEGIN TO IMAGINE PALMER'S CADDY OR JACK'S SHOUTING AT THE PEOPLE LIKE WILLIAMS DOES. HE SHOULD BE REMOVED. WOODS IS ALSO AT FAULT FOR ALLOWING HIS EMPLOYEE TO RESPOND TO PEOPLE THAT WAY. THAY BOTH SUCK.
AS FOR WEI---LEAVE THE KID ALONE. AT LEAST SHE HAS CLASS--- EVEN FOR A 15 YEAR OLD.
WOODS AND HIS CADDY HAVE TAKEN GOLF TO AN ALL TIME LOW.

Wie v Woods July 19, 2005, 12:18 pm

by Steve
Tiger IS the best golfer to ever play the game. Jack never struck fear in any of past greats the way Tiger does. He makes so many good men crumble at his feet and he has made men better champions just because he makes them elevate their game. As for Wie she is a spoiled brat that has recieved some graces that would NEVER go towards any man. She made a comment I believe it was the start of her match play last weekend that if a man wanted to play on the LPGA then he would need a sex change...well honey I don't see any stem on your apple. Even the way she talks, she sounds like a "Tele-Tubby". I say until she improves or even proves that she can "hang" with the men, she should stay with the rest of the high school girls. Long live Tiger and yes give him all he deserves and more.

Nie piece on Wie vs Wee Tiger. Why can't guys play in women's events if the cute gals can play in men's events?
Make all golf tournaments opens? But that's the end of women's golf which is fun and remunerative.
My mother-in-law is one of the Tiger haters, but I give her credit for sticking with Mickelson despite his inability to challenge Tiger consistently.

Wie v Woods July 19, 2005, 11:26 am

I was gratified when I read your story about Wie v Woods. She will probably be a great golfer someday, sometime, but not yet. She reminds me a bit of Vjay Singh who has all the tools but none of the charisma. He wins golf but not the peoples hearts. Tiger Woods is a once a generation type golfer, the tools and the personality as well as the mindset to win. I love to watch him play, his enthusiasm for the game makes it a pleasure. Maybe Wie isn'r old enough to really show us what is needed to be a proven winner, so we might want to give her a break for a bit....but certainly enough with the Tiger bashing and doubting Thomas'. He has more than proved that he is the greatest golfer of this generation...and he may yet prove he is the greatest of all-time....time will tell.

Spot on mate. I am tired of the corporate golf world pushing this girl beyond her current talent. I hope she is still playing in three years and doesn't end up like Jennifer Capriotti.

Wie July 19, 2005, 10:38 am

Please hold any and all comments concerning winning for Michelle Wie until she's at least 18. You should be whipped, yes I said whipped, for the comments. She's a child and should be treated as such. Enjoy the fantastic play of a 15 year old. That's what it is.
PS: I'm removing myself from your e-mail list now.
