WOODS September 6, 2006, 9:00 pm

by FRED SELTMAN
PLEASE DO NOT MENTION WOODS IN THE SAME SENTENCE WITH PEOPLE LIKE PALMER AND THE OTHER GREATS. THEY WERE TRUE CHAMPIONS.
IT TAKES MORE THAN WINNING TO BE GREAT. IT TAKES CHARACTER AND CLASS. TIGER WOODS HAS NEITHER---AND NEVER WILL.

CLASS and Arnold Palmer!? What a joke! That guy was/is the biggest sell-out in the history of golf! Lord, he'd run over a nun to get at the chance to shill for anything and still drags his wrinkly old carcass around tourneys he has ZERO chance of even making the cut in, all for the sack full of cash that the promoters give him. How much is enough for THE KING!? This is a guy who's going to charge admission to his own funeral ... the sooner the better, AFAIC.

It takes class to know class, and no one posting here would know it if they saw it. Tiger is a class act anybody that can't see that has no class.

KEVIN---
SOME HOW I DO NO NOT THINK YOU EVER MET THE MAN (PALMER). I USE TO GO TO MANY TOURN HE WAS IN AND HE WAS ALWAYS EXTREMLY NICE TO EVERYONE. GREETED EVERYONE WITH A SMILE, OFFERED PICTURES ETC.WE HAVE NOT (NOR DID YOU IN YOUR RESPONSE) MENTIONED OTHER CHAMPIONS. WOODS AND HIS CADDY ARE NASTY TO PEOPLE. HE DOES NOT NOT EVEN ACKNOWLEGE
THEIR PRESENCE. THE MAN IS A LOW LIFE AND IT WILL CATCH UP TO HIM. ALSO--IF HIS CADDY EVER CRABED MY CAMERA I WOULD SMACK HIM IN THE HEAD WITH IT. ANY TRUE CHAMPION WOULD HAVE FIRED THE CADDY FOR THAT.

Amen brother! I witnessed first hand a few years ago at Fort Bragg, NC how arrogant Mr. Woods is. While giving a clinic that was supposed to be "for the kids", he refused to give any autographs to these same kids. Don't give me the "It's because it would wind up on e bay" argument either. He has no class.

Tigers record September 6, 2006, 7:16 pm

by joe jesse
Thinking back over the numerous sports records that have been set and broken over the years I cannot think of any we started to discuss prior the the chalenger even getting half way to the existing record. IF he gets to 8 or 9 then you should start to talk about it.

Tiger's Streak... and all your responses September 6, 2006, 11:09 am

by Skone
As an avid reader of Travelgolf.com, I must say that I am utterly shocked by some of your responses to Brandon Tucker's "LT Comment."
Those who criticize Brandon epitimize the fact that, as Americans, we no longer have a voice anymore. We are expected to internalize our opinions, and sugar coat every semi-controversial idea we spread. What is wrong with comparing Tiger Woods situation with that of LT. Would you prefer a comparison to the 6'8 Little Leaguer that dominates baseball? Boring...boring...boring. By adding LT to the equation, Brandon adds the element of emotion, which is what ALL journalism classes teach writers to do.
Just because you are afraid to say what you truly feel doesn't mean you should criticize those who do.

Tiger Woods takes fifth W in a row, when do we talk about Nelson's streak? September 6, 2006, 5:05 am

by Fleety
Brandon Tucker's maths appear as good has is comments, 4 is nearer a 3rd of the way than half.
Of course woods's task will be made easier if they keep changing the rules for him. Prehaps the new PGA rules will be that Out of Bounds only applies to selected golfers.

Fleety....Tiger has won 5 in a row....not 4......not quite half way to 11, but over half if he wins his next one.

Regarding Fleety's comment referencing "Out of Bounds"......the PGA rules committee has never and would never change any rule for any golfer. The ruling you are probably referring to was the correct rule.....the ball was not out of bounds....no doubt, he caught a nice break.....so what....get over it, Tiger is the current best player and there are many jealous people because he is the best.

TW, you try hitting a ball over the clubhouse at your course, and see if your playing partners will give you a free drop with clear line of site to the green.

Boy did you hit the nail on the head. Not only should he have been penalized stroke and distance for out of bounds he should have been penalized and penalized and penalized for looking for a lost ball for longer than allowed and where was that famous CLOCK they talk about when someone gets out of position?

Apples and Oranges September 5, 2006, 9:42 pm

by cds
I don't want to sound badly on this comment, but imagine that Emmitt Smith was the only black guy in the NFL, or that MJ was the only black guy in an all white basketball NFL. Clearly, black dominance in sports in not simply a matter of spending more time in the school yard. There is a physical difference. It isn't discussed, but it must be there. Tiger might be just another case of breaking more barriers than social norms. Golf will be much better for it and all golfers have raised the bar. They just can't do it as fast as he can. Maybe someday the ethnic mix on the fairway will be less tilted than it is today. Until then, we get to watch a unique and talented physical specimen!

B.S. September 5, 2006, 8:25 pm

by hypes
To say "sending women and blow to the hotel...." is total crap. This guy Brandon should go find a hotel room and join LT.
god speed tiger...

RE: B.S. September 6, 2006, 3:02 am

LT did do that, and bragged about it to Mike Wallace on 60 Minutes: (Mike Wallace's VO:) "He was the king and he had a devious way to weaken opponents the night before the game – by sending escorts to their rooms to tire them out. Did it work?" "Absolutely", says Taylor." -- cbsnews.com But Tiger doesn't have Taylor demons, and evokes class and sportsmanship, while still giving his tourmates nightmares.
