Who's kicking who's butt ? September 25, 2006, 11:24 am

by Urs Trefalt
Being just a single one of the remaining 95% of this planet's population who is NOT American - it is a real pleasure to see the final score of this year's Ryder Cup.
But this only in context with the very questionable state of mind, the author of the article in question has prooven! Ryder Cup is simply what it is: no more and no less than a sportive competition.
As a (european) golfer and reader of "This week at TravelGolf.com" I am interested only in reading about the golf scene and what's happening there. If I want to get updated on world politics, believe me, I prefer reading statements of REAL journalists!
Or was this "the rest of the world does not love us" probably just a sign of the upcoming frustration of getting the own butt kicked one more time ?

ryder cup September 25, 2006, 4:30 am

The USA team looked so unhappy , never smiling even when winning , esp ,Tiger and Jim F. There was no real team spirit , and , for some reason , the Euros had it in abundance . Each wanted the others to win , as you saw with Garcia after he personally had lost .
Too selfish , too many superstars , too many prima donnas ? I don't know , but I felt sorry for Lehman , who did his best .

Ryder Cup Blues 2 September 22, 2006, 12:25 am

by Robert
Compare Monty's record in the Ryder Cup and Tiger's. Look at the last 5 Ryder Cup competitions - 04 were won by the Europeans. US dominance of golf is a myth. Sure, the PGA Tour is a different animal which is perfectly suited to Americans because Tour events are competitions for individuals. Earlier, some bonehead wrote that Europe hates the US because of Nicklaus, Tiger etc. Sorry, Einstein, Europe hates the US because we have the unfortunate habit of sticking out fat asses in their face at every opportunity. And they're sick of it.

State Of the US in the World September 20, 2006, 4:51 pm

by Paul Armstrong
Now is no different with Canadians or other nations. What I'm surprised at is the humility Americans are expressing if they have to apologize for what they are. Generally their nature is a bit bombastic and that has overwhelmed all nations. Back to golf and the Ryder, I think the challenge is there and remember that most PGA tournaments have been won by Americans, mostly Tiger, who has the ability to finish what he started unlike the International players. Politically, observations suggest control and domination which makes your residents insecure, but we wont bite. We are civilized.

US September 20, 2006, 1:45 pm

O dear,USA is such a mixture of good bad and worse. There is no end.Let us not forget Americans cannot even dine and use cutlery in the right fashion like everything else they do.Its not all bad but always stupid. Now which idiot is remebering Hitler. USA liberated us stole everything there was of value (Marshallplan) and lived most pleasantly from it for 30 years.Have to stop it is to much. Happy Rider Cup .

Ryder Cup September 20, 2006, 12:44 pm

by John Mitscha
As a 40-year golfer and fan, I like that fact that the U.S. doesn't win every Ryder Cup, such as in the old days. Destroying the other team each year doesn't make for much of a contest. The European/ROW golfers have climbed to world status and it makes it more interesting as we learn about the non-U.S. players from Golf Channel broadcasts. I love to watch Lee Westwood and Colin Montgomerie!

US Criticism September 20, 2006, 11:33 am

First learn to spell litre and second, ouch I guess the truth hurts.

Strange thing paranoia isn't it ! I've seen several cases on here just lately most of it related to impending doom for the USA in the Ryder Cup.
I know its unusual for the USA to compete in a sport where other nations are allowed to compete for the "world cup", but just for once try to be just a little humble towards your opponents.

Canada September 20, 2006, 9:55 am

by Doug Walker
This little article is typically self serving.Perhaps when your citizens begin to realoze that there are indeed other people in this world of ours who actually care about the world we live in rather then their own interests we will begin to appreciate the US on a better level. The first step is to lose the Bush, Cheny, Rumsfeld triumvirate. many of the perceptions about the US have been a direct result of the actions of these three somewhat questionable gentlemen!

The Real Reason For US Hatred September 20, 2006, 8:54 am

by Tony Spiro
Lets get one thing straight. The world doesn't hate the US becuase it is the first with money and aide after a natural disaster. Or because the US went over and saved Europe from fanatical dictators TWICE in one century. Or becuse the US provided a Nuclear Shield for Canada during the Cold War. No, the world hates the US because it produced Jack Nicklaus and Tiger Woods. The greatest players of a game invented in Europe.

by Alex Birukow
Get real !! People don't hate the US because of Jack and Tiger, only an American would think something like that really matters. Then I guess everyone hates Canadians because we produced the best hockey players ever, or they hate Brazilians because they produced the best soccer players ever. And I think you'd better get your facts right about the wars !!!

Retarct your fangs and claws. Does your hatred for the US blind you so much that you don't recognize humor when you see it.
As for the Wars. Are you refering to how well France and the rest of Europe was doing against the Germans before the US entered. As they say, Europe never forgave the US for liberating them.

US self importance September 20, 2006, 8:46 am

by Sawyers Boss
Being a Canuck with dual citizenship I'll off my semi-neutral POV. It's not a "pastime" that the world has in knocking the US... it's just fact. I see 2 main reasons. 1. US believes thay are right in everything they do... and be damned if you don't agree. 2. Ignorance is bliss. Well, not really... Being a Superpower comes with responsibility. Decisions and actions resolved from intelligent knowledge of facts. The average level of world knowledge in the US is abismal. And for that the US should be ashamed. Granted, its good to know your own country and it's heritage (many could use more of this - us included). However, learning doesnt stop there. Where you fit in the world is important and perception is reality. If people are hurting your feelings, maybe you should put down the loud speaker and listen to the why's. There is a television show here that sends down the host to talk to American citizens. Interesting that people could not spell Toronto. Did not know that Canada was the country immediately north of the US(answer was Russia), and that Alberta was a province in Canada. We only have a handfull people... and our we share a border for the length of our countries...this isn't rocket science.. it's being aware of your surroundings, when acting on an international stage.

Ugly Americans September 20, 2006, 8:26 am

by Car Lo
I have nothing against Ugly Americans, just ignorant ones...and Chris, you would be in the running for the top spot, if it wasn't for the sad fact that you merely exhibit the depth of intellect and worldy wisdom held by the Average American. For example, you criticize Canada and make a lame joke, when Canada,in fact, is the largest single supplier of foreign oil to the US. God, I wish I had my hand on the tap....
Cheers.

You said it all! September 20, 2006, 7:15 am

by Bob Weaver
Well, from a Canuck's perspective, your article said it all -- that the rest of the world should really get excited about your perspective on how we should view you.
Sorry, but I don't ....
