Caddies February 1, 2007, 11:44 am

by DavidK
I agree. I've had the chance to play using a caddie twice and it's the best way to play golf. I think more members should demand their clubs use caddies, but I'm sure the pro and course owner don't want to forfeit the cart fees.

Caddies Vs. Golf Instructors February 1, 2007, 12:46 am

I agree with Chris about the value of most "Golf Instructors" especially the ones that teach something they do not do themselves! Most do not have a clue about centrifugal force and the swinging motion of a pendulum like swing.
Golfer beware!

Agree with this article. We go to Mexico and down there the caddies are really fun. For $20 plus tip, i have fun talking with the guy, hearing his jokes in broken English, and just having a great time. The grain is so strong that the caddie earns his wage just reading my putts. I always let them play the par 3's with us. I actually like the caddies better in Ixtapa than at Pebble.

Your piece about caddies was timely for me as well since we will be playing in FL in April with a Foredaddie. Need to know what to tip the person. Please help.

A forecaddie is generally assigned to a group of 4 golfers who are riding carts. His (or her) job is go 'before' to help you find your balls -- it helps 'speed of play' enourmously. If that's the case for you, the forecaddie is not going to have time to help you pull clubs, get distances very often, etc. Depending on how helpful the person is, 25. from each player in the group is probably sufficient.

"One round with a caddie changed my beliefs faster than John Edwards spins his political views."
Was that necessary? There is so much political vitriol out there these days. I'd just as soon enjoy reading about golf without it.

PALEEEEEEEEEEEEEZE! You just committed the very act you admonished. I would prefer reading peoples questions/comments regarding caddies to reading your disguised liberal objection!

I had the opportunity to play a great course last fall and for the first time played with a caddy. It was a wonderful experience enhanced by one of my best scores on an unfamiliar and difficult course. He told me where to aim when my eyes told me something else. He read the greens when I had no clue. I wish I could play every time with a caddy, but my regular course doesn't even offer one. I'd do it again if given the chance.

Good article on the value of of a caddy. Can you follow it up with one on tipping caddies -- at your club, at a resort, as a guest at another club -- the whole range? Thanks.
