Senior Tour July 19, 2007, 11:19 pm

by Ron Keener
This will be the last article I read on this website as I too will be deleting my online subscription due to TravelGolf.com's decision to allow Baldwin to write unedited.
Had you been at this tournament, you may have had a right to give an opinion. Here are a few facts from one that attended. The USGA had to tighten up the course and alter the speed of the greens because these hacks and old men were tatooing the scoreboard on day one. Ripping it a new one!
I'm in damn good shape and walk my share of rounds each year. I walked the entire course for two straight days along with a certain player. The athletisism by all these players to walk the four rounds (no carts) and play top knotch shots was to compare with their younger tour players.
All the while being approachable, talking to fans, showing emotions, signing autographs, not acting like a primadonna, and adding fans faster than free fried food at a State Fair.
Baldwin, your peers can't stand you, and have said so on a number of occasions, but as long as the press is open to any one that can put words to paper or blog, you are allowed your opinion, as uneducated as it is. How ever, if the syndication loses enough email addresses as a result of publishing your crap, their sponsors will go bye-bye and we will see less of your dribble.
They are all Champions, they are deserving of the fans that pay to come watch and learn from them. And this comes from a ten year fan that attends 5 or more tournaments a year to observe every part of the great product that Rick George is trying to revitalize and bring to the golf fans that appreciate great golf. Do us all a favor and write reviews on some other sport.

Chris Baldwin. What a pompous, ignorant hack!!! Why is he still allowed to write?

Senior Tour July 12, 2007, 11:28 am

by Steve Van Herpe
Mr. Baldwin,
By denigrating those competing on the Senior Tour you have revealed just how ignorant you are concerning the game of golf and the knowledge, skill, and ability needed to compete at that level. These guys are phenomenal players. You sir, at your best, would not be fit to carry their clubs.
P.S.
If you were as talented at writing as these guys are at golf, you would have a book on the Best Seller list every year.

Chris...
I just spent 4 days in Kohler at the Senior Open. Guys like Watson, Crenshaw, Kite, Roberts, Bryant, Irwin,
Simpson, etc. are REAL people and fun to be around. Unlike most of the robots on the PGA Tour, they actually acknowledge the fans and talk to people.
Can't wait to go to the 08 Senior Open.
Very condescending article. I wonder if you will feel the same when you are in your 50's.

MANY of these CHAMPIONS won numerous PGA tournaments including
MAJORS. Calling them has beens shows your IGNORANCE! They are much more fan friendly than the robotic swingers on the PGA tour and are accomplished individuals off the course as well. I am lucky enough to know several of the members of the senior tour and they are fine men, great fathers, etc. Hell, wings and cocktails after a victory sounds good to me. Just because a person does NOT drink Dom Perignon after a golf victory shouldn't label that man as low rent. Ask any member of the PGA tour to stand on the 18th tee of a U.S. Open with a lead, hit a perfect one iron into the teeth of a 30 MPH wind on a 450 yard par 4, then hit a long iron into the middle of the green and two putt for his U.S. Open victory. I guess less than 20% would be able to. Brad Bryant did! He is a CHAMPION. He earned it! They have game, NEVER doubt that for a moment. Maybe you need to try chess.

Senior vs Champions article July 11, 2007, 9:57 pm

by Gary
I think the others are correct. I remember a similar piece on your site after another Senior Open, either last year or the previous. It's just a golf tournament after all. Maybe you should consider a career shift to another direction- maybe covering extreme sports. Then again, you could just repeat the same story, interjecting new names next year. No one would notice and you can spend the weekend fly fishing and eating chicken wings like all the other old geezers.

Senior Open Baldwin #%&$*head July 11, 2007, 9:46 pm

by Ch;uck Collet
Baldwin:- You gotta get laid man. I mean really, you gotta get laid. Just a minute, sorry about that Chris, you don't gotta get laid cause I just looked at your picture and you is one butt ugly, no name, no cash, no gash, pittiful excuse for a human being, never mind a writer..When are your superiors going to get the point that your childish, immature, inane, ramblings are not helping their cause in any way. I am willing, at this point, to suggest that you have become a definite liability to this website.. So, Yoo Hoo, you guys and gals that run this online rag, better start listening to your readers or you may find yourself sending off your cheap comments to an empty piece of cyberspace.. And don't y'all worry about it any more Chris, you just turned yourself into something you might expect to find in a "depends".. Disgusted; Chuck Collet, Pitt Meadows, British Columbia.. 62 and way better than you...

Seniors at Whistling Straits July 11, 2007, 9:17 pm

by Audie
This is without a doubt one of the most disgusting "reviews" I have ever read! May you depend on Depends in the near future, and eat chicken wings with gusto.
I'll 'take' the Seniors' tournaments over the dull, emotionless, deadpan PGA any day. Here was golf played with imagination and skill, far beyond the abilities of most of the younger crowd (except Tiger & Phil) - and the enthusiasm, the highs and the lows were all there for everyone to see and enjoy. Particularly enjoyed the 'miked' comments between golfer & caddy - not to mention the mutterings after a wayward ball. Anyone who played that course under those howling conditions deserves a medal - and then to win? You should be so lucky!

Never Has Beens!? July 11, 2007, 6:25 pm

by Karl Nielsen
Tom Watson, a never-has-been!? Get real. The guy as FIVE Open Championships for crying out loud. Not to mention two Masters, a U.S. Open and 31 other PGA Tour victories. You're just yanking our chains, right? Okay, here's one for you: Perhaps you're the "beer truck driver" of journalism -- the only difference between you and your hatcheted version of Mark Johnson then, would be that you barely look 30. You were probably wetting your nappies when Watson and Nicklaus lit up Turnberry in '77. For my money, anyone, regardless of what it says on his birth certificate, who can shoot 6 under over four rounds at Whistling Straits is playing some serious golf.

Senior Golf Champions July 11, 2007, 6:18 pm

by Diedrick Fink
Some day you are going to be old and I hope the golf gods pay you back for all the nasty things you said about old golfers. Can you play a par round on the same course.

Shame on you! I am no longer interested in getting your newsletters.
Golf used to be a game for ladies and gentlemen, but no gentleman wrote that article.

TravelGolf can do better. July 11, 2007, 3:56 pm

by G Wood
Most of the travelgolf articles are an interesting quick read. This is certainly the exception. To bash the Senior/Champions Tour players in the manner Chris Baldwin has done here is without merit and only shows his lack of appreciation of the game. Golf, what a great sport that provides a venue for those golfers skilled enough to excel on a professional level past the age of 50. I see no reason to even open future travelgolf emails.

Chris Who? TravelGolf who? July 11, 2007, 3:25 pm

by Dan Winger
Golf interest is down, the PGA Tour has become extremely boring, and now we have a clown sports writer picking on the seniors. Golf is about to hit rock-bottom and needs the help of some good thinkers. Obviously, Chris Baldwin doesn't have the ability to provide any positive suggestions and Travel Golf has nothing to offer.
I am canceling my subscription to the Travel Golf Newsletters and will never again read anything that Baldwin writes.

Do you even play golf...or just type? July 11, 2007, 3:07 pm

by Phil
I think, after this real humorous/edgy column, you should no longer be able to write another inane sentence until you beat at least one of the following in a round of golf.
Ben Crenshaw
Loren Roberts
Tom Watson
Jay Haas
Mark O'Meara
Craig Stadler
Tom Kite
Jack Nicklaus
Arnold Palmer
Until then, go write for people magazine or something.
Oh, and travelgolf, please take my email off of your mailing list.

Your comments on a tour comprised of mature individuals certainly showed your immaturity.
