1) The folks who say air fare is too cheap must work in the air travel industry, or they are rich and just don't want the rest of us riff-raff on the plane with them.
2) Everything you asked would be a helluva big improvement.
3) It would be an even bigger improvement if airline personnel would, at least, pretend like they care when there is a problem. The "don't give a damn" attitude that most of them display is just a galling as the delays.

Chris,
You don't get paid for this childish crap do you? You are almost always wrong on every blog you write on golf and now you are showing that you don't have a clue about the airlines as well.
How do you figure it is in the airlines best interest to keep people in a plane for 4 hours. Every minute that aircraft stays on the ground is time it isn't making money for the airline. You need to look at the bigger picture sometimes. You, the flying public, want to fly for the price of a Greyhound bus........ guess what, it isn't possible and yet the airlines try to do it anyway.
I checked on the pricing of that Jet Blu flight last year....... it was 189 dollars to fly across the country in 4 hours. Greyhound was 139 dollars for 4 days 17 hours. Amtrack was 169 for 3 days and a few hours. On top of that, you slobs want to get a movie and a gourmet meal, you're the cause of the problem. People that should be riding the bus are now jumping on planes since the pricing has been driven down to such ridiculously low levels. Let the airlines raise the price to a more reasonable level and maybe service would get better.

Chris,
The only way the airlines are going to do anything about their delays is if passengers vote with their feet and find alternatives to flying.
Probably not going to happen for those long trips, but trains and autos will have to do for now.
We have become beholden to cheap airfares and too many flight operations to allow for a mass exodus, but as long as the sheep are drawn to the airport, the airlines will just put off any remedies.

Dear Jon,
I have just read your article on passenger rights with airlines.
I have an interesting file to send to you. in 2004, the EU has passed very interesting legislation to keep airlines in check with delays, overbooking, and flight cancellations. Airlines must offer food and beverages, accomodation and even compensation to all passengers when they are responsible. Weather and other force majeure absolve the airlines of this responsibility, which is justified.
Please give me an email address to which I can send this Adobe file.
Best Regards,
Tim Hyland
