dogs May 26, 2006, 11:31 am

by Pat Brockwell
I am a golf course owner and superintendent, if they don't cause trouble, make too much noise, are well socialized, keep up and don't make messes we allow them on the course, same rules apply for dogs. Most dogs are better behaved and more pleasant than some human patrons. I've had to ask many more people to leave than dogs over the course of my career. Sounds like some folks at Travel Golf could use a friend.

Obviously Mr Baldwin hasn't played many of the smaller courses in Scotland. The scots take the pups with them all the time. However, I might add that the dogs there are very well trained. They sit quietly while the players tee off and then stay at their owners side. They present no problem to anyone. AND they are very good at locating balls hit into that stuff they call rough.

Dogs on Courses.... May 24, 2006, 1:20 am

There, this proves there is a first for everything.. Now I'm going to agree with something Mr. Baldwin has to Say???? Damn it.,but he's right..It's time more folks stood up for the really important things in this life and world, (and domestic pets, altough important to many, aren't anywhere near the top of the list as believed by far too many people).. Lets put people first, may it be on the golf course or "anywhere else" for that matter. Just keep your dog, cat, lizard, rat, goldfish or whatever away from my golf game, my lakeside campsite, my garden,(on which I've wasted so many hours), or anywhere else where I or anyone else can not enjoy any pursuit we choose without having your "BABY" interfere with that enjoyment.. Go to the "Dog Park"... Leave the rest of us alone... Gee, I guess that makes me a nasty unfeeling wretch to all the poor slobs who can't develop a decent relationship with other humans so they try to replace that with a creature who really can't do much to control their own environment and are completely dependent on their "masters".... By the way, having been a greens supervisor myself, riding around a course with the course mascot is almost always related to chasing away unwanted "animals" like coots, geese, etc... Smell the coffee folks, it's "your" animal no one else gives a damn about it and shouldn't have to listen to it, be afraid of it, or be interfered with by it....
I guess I'm just old and crochety..

You're not old and crotchity -- just blessed with common sense -- a rare commodity these days.

Chris! We actually agree! Check this out: Today, the FOX morning news here in the Orlando area said there is a bill going to Congress to require local emergency agencies to have a plan to provide for PETS in the event of a hurricane evacuation. And, if they don't have a pet plan in place, they will be denied federal money. The emergency agencies can't take care of all the PEOPLE who need help; and now they are going to be required, with our tax dollars of course -- to help pets? Maybe they will evacuate them to the golf courses.

NICE DOGGIE May 23, 2006, 6:50 pm

LIKE BALDWIN OR NOT. WHO CARES?
JUST KEEP YOUR FRIGGIN DOG OFF THE GOLF COURSE

Dogs don't belong on the golf course. We have people who bring their dogs to the course and it is very annoying. The course is for people to enjoy, not dog walking. Dogs rate right along with cell phones ringing while you are trying to putt out or hit a shot.

let's make a deal May 23, 2006, 6:02 pm

Geez. Add 'defending Baldwin's position' to the list of things I never though I'd do.
Bringing your dogs onto the golf course? OK. Then I'll come into your off-leash area, start blasting golf balls all over the place and let's see what happens. Deal?
Cripes, people. There's a time and a place for everything. The fact we're even debating whether or not dogs belong on the golf course is silly. Apply some common sense.

Dogs on the Golf Course May 23, 2006, 6:01 pm

The folks that think its a great idea to take along their dogs to the golf course are most likely the same people that wish to take their dogs to Home Depot, restaurants, on doctor visits, ball games, hotels and other non-animal related activities. I would support a State Initivative that fines a dog owner $500 each time his dog is found to be at a locale where it is not explicitly stated (in large block letters) that dogs are welcome.

Captivating article!
I guess my idea for "Bring your Pet to the golf course day" won't get a thumbs up from you. Since dogs are part of the family, I thought it would be great to spend a day in the fairways with Rover romping around chasing the golf ball, and benefit the local Humane Society.
Many golf course superintendents take their dogs to work with them, and ride around in the golf car.
As for the Dr. that took care of Barbaro, you think we can put him in charge of the national healthcare system? I didn't think he was smug, he was the ultimate professional.

Dog's on golf course May 23, 2006, 5:22 pm

by Rick H
Who is it really hurting? You had a dog when you were a kid huh? Doesn't sound like you have one now so I'd say you are not really a "dog person" so you really wouldn't get it? Dog's are truly man's best friend and they provide so much pleasure to so many people. When speaking of Barbaro you state, "veterans being ignored and homeless folks stepped over", what the hell does that have to do with the price of eggs? Nothing. Try concentrating on not "gripping your shaft" so tight instead of worrying about someone walking the course with their doggy. A thousand bucks say you slice the ball anyway....Sounds like someone needs to get laid?

You continue to write boring, senseless columns. Congratulations on wasting my time yet again.
